The duel proved yet again to be another even contest with both defences dominating throughout. Once again goalkeeper Keith Baker was in tremendous form, as indeed were the whole team.

United re-shuffled their side from the previous Saturday's game - Leo Markham coming into midfield, John Bailey moving up front and Gary Harthill who had been suffering from a stomach upset was a substitute.

United could so easily have opened the scoring in the first 5 minutes when in a ding-dong goalmouth scramble the ball was cleared off the Barnet goal line.

A Billy Holmes corner on the half hour nearly crept in as the Barnet keeper Steel parried the shot, but within a minute United keeper Keith Baker was to become number 1 hero.

With the complete United defence awaiting an offside decision Barnet forward Roberts was clean through and the luckless Mick Martin then had little option but to obstruct the player in the box for a penalty to be awarded. Turner's spot kick was superbly parried by Baker and equally well saved at the second attempt - much to the delight of the large Aylesbury contingent.

The second half saw the continuation of this tight game but with both sides having ample opportunities to settle the issue one way or another. Two goal bound United efforts were cleared off the goal line. This half really belonged to one man - Keith Baker who on one occasion found himself making a two handed save near to the touchline only to get himself booked in the process. Soon after this he was involved in one miraculous touch-over that even had the Barnet end applauding in appreciation.

Extra time saw little alteration in the pattern of the game even with Gary Harthill coming on for Leo Markham. The deadlock couldn't be broken and both teams, tired of course, seemed content to meet again.
