With both sides having gone into the game with 4 wins and a draw in their previous 5 league games, it had all the makings of a cracker and it certainly lived up to all expectations with the Leicestershire hosts deserving their win.
After some early Shepshed pressure which saw Ducks midfielder Peter Coffill forced to clear off the line after one fearful scramble and future Duck Andy Gould crack a thunderous shot against a post, United held out and took the lead in the 21st minute.
Peter Mead played the ball in from the right, Coffill eluded his marker and when the ball was poorly cleared, Peter Arch smashed his 1st goal for the club past rooted Shepshed keeper Colin King to give the visitors a half time lead.
United went close to doubling their advantage in the 49th minute when John Davie sent a fierce snap shot only just over the bar before the hosts equalised two minutes later when a vicious cross from Gould was fumbled by Ducks keeper Keith Baker and the alert Dennis Jenas pounced to score a simple goal.
Shepshed began to look dangerous and they took the lead in the 70th minute when a through ball left Jeff Lissaman in the clear, the offside flag stayed down and the future Duck sent a perfect finish past Baker.
It was 3-1 in the 78th minute when Gould turned inside Ducks defender Andy Dockery before firing in off the far post for a great goal.
The visitors still battled away and after Phil Barber and Coffill had brought good saves from King, United pulled one back in the 88th minute when Coffill took advantage of a slip by Shepshed defender Dave Wharton to net and make the scoreline a little more just but it was too late.
