United started the game in emphatic style and took the lead on fourteen minutes. Allan Pluckrose's low whipped drive was only diverted into the path of Cliff Hercules who was left with the easy task of tapping home from two yards.
From there on in it was downhill for the Ducks as the defence individually and collectively let their team mates down. Paul Waites ran right through the United back row before beating Tim Garner, and in injury time at the end of the first period Waites' ball beat Peter Hutter and Terry Merriman raced clear to chip home.
Aylesbury had one opportunity to level in the second half, Glen Donegal's header crashing against the crossbar and the rebound being bundled away before Rob Smith could react, and United's title hopes were left in tatters.
