Apart from a Sean Norman cros which bounced off the top of Tim Garner's bar, both sides spent much of the opening ten minutes slipping on a wet greasy surface. The first goal arrived after 11 minutes when Kevin Davies broke free before firing in a low angled shot towards the far corner, Lomas appeared to get a touch to the ball, but Darren Collins was on hand to finish off the rebound from close range.
In the 16th minute a powerful run by Collins ended with a hard low centre into the danger area which Bateman hoofed clear as Cliff Hercules steamed in. At the midway point Hercules, helping out in defence, nipped in to take the ball off Cosby as he steadied to shoot, the on 35 minutes Chesham levelled at 1-1. Peter Hutter failed to intercept 25 yards out, and Michael Banton wasted no time in seizing the opportunity to fire low past Garner to bring his side back into the game.
Two minutes later Mitchell came close at the nearpost following a fine cross by Ryan, and there were a few nailbiting moments as the Ducks defence weathered some sustained pressure. Four minutes from the break Davies released Hercules who galloped clear, and as Lomas came out to narrow the angle, Cliff's right footed effort went inches wide of the far post, Collins just failing to connect and colliding into the woodwork for his efforts.
Four minutes into the second period Andy Robinson headed narrowly over the Chesham bar following an Andy Wright corner, and it was Aylesbury who took the game by the scruff of the neck to impose their authority. On 60 minutes Simon Mason lofted over the defence to an unmarked Hercules who, not realising the free space hurried a volley high over the top. He did however make amends six minutes later when Wright threaded a brilliant 35 yard pass and Hercules sprinted away from Bateman, then sidestepped Lomas before hitting the target to regain the lead.
In the 79th minute another tireless run by Hercules won a left side corner. Over it came from Wright to the far post where Hercules rose to head powerfully into the net for his second and the Ducks' third goal of the game.
In the last ten minutes Aylesbury's defence, with former Chesham player Paul Benning in typical composed fashion, stifled anything the home side could offer, then four minutes from time Lomas pulled off another fine save to deny Collins a deserved fourth goal and the game ended with a final score of 3-1.
