After getting their league campaign off to a winning start with a 3-2 home victory over Carshalton Athletic the previous Saturday, new Ducks player-manager Dave Sansom saw his side crash to their biggest league defeat since losing 0-8 at Willenhall Town in the Southern League Midland Division in December 1982 with this thrashing at Kingsmeadow Stadium. The sole United scorer on a day to forget in Surrey was Nick Ashby.
