The opening half was a fairly even affair, with little to excite the small crowd who chose to watch a live game rather than stay at home, put their feet up, and watch Man United in Turkey.
Gary Phillips made a superb parry from a Metcalfe shot, whilst at the other end Michael Danzey brought the best out of keeper Peter Scrivens.
The previous season's top scorer Mark Xavier had a quiet game, and his best effort just after the break was stopped by the alert Phillips.
Apart from an Endersby effort, United took control and twice had stupendous openings. After 75 minutes Carl Hoddle lobbed over the defence to Robert Sharpe who beat the offside trap, but with only Scrivens to beat Sharpe's volley lacked power and the keeper collected.
Ten minutes from time Kevin Davies got the better of Bob Dowie and, having gone into the area, Dabber lost control and the ball rolled out of play with an open goal begging.
