Heybridge's first ever visit to Buckingham Road occured at a difficult time for the Ducks. The club were facing an eviction order from the ground and the future looked bleak.
The Essex club had started their first season in the Premier Division in fine style and went into the match in fourth place in the table. United on the other hand were ninth but on a poor run and were without a win in four.
Manager Gary Phillips rang the changes and dropped summer signings Matt Carmichael, Carl Hoddle and Kieran Gallagher, replacing them with Mick Swaysland, Stacy Joseph and Gary Simpson.
The three deputies played their part as Aylesbury fought out a deserved victory. The only goal of the game came on fifteen minutes when tricky winger Stacy Joseph won the ball on the halfway line. He forced his way past several defenders before crossing perfectly for Swaysland. The former London Colney man making his full league debut made no mistake with the outside of his right foot to follow his midweek debut goal at Sittingbourne.
Swaysland quickly became a fan's favourite and went on to notch almost fifty goals in less than two seasons before Bob Dowie decided he was surplus to requirements. He had a brief spell at Chesham United and also appeared for Thame United before establishing himself at Wealdstone.
The home side had the better of the chances throughout the remainder of the encounter but couldn't increase their lead. The new man's effort was enough to send the Ducks fans home happy, taking their minds off the club's impending problems.
