Five months after the two sides last met, United's Championship dreams were well and truly over and their runners up spot was now in danger from the fast improving Dagenham & Redbridge.
Aylesbury had gone seven games without a win and the team spirit instilled by Bob Dowie had disappeared over the horizon when the big man left. John Harding may not have had the best of luck with injuries, but a heavy defeat at home to eventual Champions Sutton United well and truly knocked the wind out of the Aylesbury sails. Billericay's early season promise had also evaporated and the Essex side were sitting mid table.
On a bright summer day though, some Buckinghamshire pride was restored as glimpses of the early season Ducks shone through. Paul Wilson opened the scoring after twenty five minutes. In his last game in the Green and White the reliable left back turned and struck an unstoppable effort from the edge of the area.
In the second period Ian King added a second after playing a delightful one-two with Gary Crawshaw, before Crawshaw completed the scoring, notching his thirtieth goal of the campaign.
Given the marvelous weather, the result, United's highest ever Isthmian League placing and the fact they'd won a few quid on a bet, the United travelling faithful performed a conga around the terraces much to the bemusement of all those present, as Aylesbury ended the season on what turned out to be a temporary high.
