The home side opened the scoring after just six minutes when veteran defender Cliff Hercules rose to head home an Ian King corner. Poor defending let the visitors back in the game with a bizarre goal nineteen minutes later. Mark Stimson took a direct free kick from just inside the Aylesbury half which was allowed to drop in the area and bounced over the hapless Des Gallagher in the United goal.
Twelve minutes before the break Gary Crawshaw restored his side's lead with a rare headed goal, but after the break Canvey equalised again when Jon Underwood failed to control the ball and allowed Craig Davidson to nip in and score.
Kieran Gallagher looked to have secured the points four minutes from time when his spectacular left foot drive from the edge of the area crashed into the roof of the net.
A hat-trick of defensive calamitites was completed two minutes later though when Wayne Stemp, with all the time in the world to clear, dallied on the ball and Steve Parmenter stole in to fire home.
A draw may have been a fair result, but it wasn't what United were looking for.
