United remained second from bottom after this game which saw three players sent off. Hampton & Richmond's centre-back Barnsby received a third minute caution for a foul on Crawshaw and spent much of the first half pulling and tugging United's frontman. Seven minutes from the interval Barnsby picked on
Cliff Hercules off the ball and it was a foul too many for the referee who gave Barnsby his marching orders.
By that time it was honours even. The home side took the lead on 17 minutes, Wood crossing to Carter who nipped in before Colin Wall and slotted past Gary Phillips. Two minutes later United levelled when, from a corner, an Ian King shot was going well wide, but the alert Selby looped a header over Frankland.
Just before the break Phillips made a good save from Carter, but four minutes after the re-start Hampton's Buglione scored with a 25-yard free kick. Selby then went close with a curling shot but United failed to capitalise on their extra man advantage and had to thank Hercules for blocking a close-range Buglione drive on the line.
Kieran Gallagher chipped just wide on 80 minutes, Phillips came to the rescue again after 84 to deny Gardner, and in the closing stages came two more dismissals. Colin Wall was sent off for a second yellow card, on his full debut, and with players from both sides involved on the halfway line, Hampton & Richmond's Fiston Manuella was sent off for his part in the fracas.
