United took an 8th minute lead when Hutchings teed up Steve Heard who struck a thunderous 25-yard shot past keeper Riach. The visitors continued to dominate the opening half without adding to their one-goal cushion. Hutchings was unlucky with a 37th minute shot which Riach turned for a corner, although a goalkick was given. United's backline had a far better shape to it and rarely gave Slough a sniff at goal.
But Slough, who sacked manager Graham Roberts a week earlier, began the second half in determined fashion and got back on level terms after 49 minutes. Engwell crossed to the far post and Hannigan headed on target. Phillips reacted quickly to parry but Deaner was on hand to head the return into the net.
Allan Pluckrose did well to divert a stinging effort from Hawthorne over his own bar, whilst at the other end Heard's shoot on sight policy almost paid off again, his rising drive going just over. On 80 minutes an offside looking Adekola sprinted clear of Untied's defence and his powerful shot smacked against the bar.
United hit back to telling effect with seven minutes remaining when Neil Selby and Danny Gordon combined inside the Slough box. Gordon passed to Stanbridge who kept his cool before firing an angled shot past Riach. United, who began the game second from bottom, comfortably held on and the deserved win moved them up four places in the table.
