By now Cliff Hercules was in charge but he hadn't really had a real chance to change things around and season highlights were few and far between. After the first half, anything memorable coming out of this game looked unlikely. Neither side had created very much in the way of chances and midfielder Ceri Marshman had spurned Aylesbury's best opportunity.
With seventy six minutes on the clock no sane man would have bet on the eventual outcome. Then in the space of twelve crazy minutes goals flew in left, right and centre.
Dwain Clarke was the first on the score sheet when he robbed Gary Elliot and fired home from twenty yards. Elliot made amends two minutes later though as he crashed a shot through a crowded area - his side's first effort all game.
Rather than let their heads go down, United rallied and Dave Tregurtha slotted in a rare goal following an Ollie Stanbridge corner.
Dwain Clarke then took centre stage and wrote himself into the United record books by plundering three further goals in as many minutes. He converted Roni Joe's cross for his second and completed his hat-trick when put through by Stanbridge.
For good measure a hopeful low drive squeezed past the hapless 'Leafe keeper and the scoring was complete. United were safe.
