In the very first minute Bognor striker Nicky Wyatt was brought down inside the box for a penalty. David Wright duly converted the spot kick, but United were not fazed by this disastrous start and were soon on the offensive. Dwight Marshall got the equaliser after ten minutes when Silvestri's shot was blocked but fell kindly for the ex-Slough man, who rounded the keeper to score.
Bognor re-took the lead on twenty minutes thanks to a superb chip by Matt Russell, catching Adam Wheeler off his line.
Within ten minutes United were level again - under pressure from Steve Clark, Rocks keeper Stoner spilt McCormack's cross to the feet of Marshall, who did well to lob it over the covering defenders and in off the underside of the bar.
After United's second equaliser Bognor had the bulk of posession, and thereby shaded the first half overall. For some reason they showed less attacking intent after the break, which allowed United to dominate. Clark, McCormack, Clifford, Silvestri and Marshall all had half chances but no clear cut opportunities were created, and it was Bognor who came closest to scoring. Following an error by Peter Clifford, Wyatt launched a long range effort which was tipped away acrobatically by Wheeler.
The last few minutes saw chances at both ends. Bognor substitute Rutherford hit the post after United failed to clear a corner, then at the other end Silvestri headed goalwards following good work by Stanbridge, only to see Wright clear off the line.
In the dying seconds substitute Chris Bangura got on the end of a Greg Williams cross, but his overhead kick went just wide.
