Three goals in quick succession in the first half looked to have put the tie beyond the visitors, but the Suffolk side showed great resilience to fight back.

After the early exchanges Dwain Clarke became the Aylesbury hero and had a hand in all the action. After 24 minutes a neat interchange with Enzo Silvestri saw Clarke clear on the left flank. His pinpoint cross was met by the advancing Stuart Maynard. The diminutive midfielder struck the ball first time, past the despairing dive of the Sudbury keeper, for his first goal of the season.

Within two minutes it was 2-0. Clarke's deep cross was met by his namesake Steve, who headed the ball into the path of Dwight Marshall who made no mistake from close range. The United striker adding to an already impressive tally with his sixth goal in five games, notching at least one in each of those games.

Before United could catch their breath, a third flew in. Ollie Stanbridge latching on to Dwain Clarke's free kick to become the twelfth player to score already that season.

Shortly before the break however the Eastern Counties League Champions hit back, albeit in controversial circumstances. Peter Risley put Sudbury striker Sam Banya under pressure in the area and Mr Davies ruled that the Greens number three had fouled. Substitute Lee Owen tucked home the resultant spot kick with almost his first touch of the game.

After the break the visitors had much of the early possession and a couple of half chances, before the Ducks struck again. Dwain Clarke's cross found Greg Williams who headed on to Chris Bangura. The young striker was full of confidence and made no mistake, crashing a volley high into the roof of the net.

That should have been game over, but slack defending saw two further Sudbury goals. Sam Banya benefitted from a defensive slip and beat the offside trap to reduce the deficit, before a second penalty from Lee Owen. The decision, this time against Scott Honeyball, gave United a few anxious moments before the official finally ended the match presenting Aylesbury another home tie in the Second Qualifying Round.
