Aylesbury appeared slow out of the blocks, and Sutton were quick to capitalise, and took the lead after just 6 minutes. A cross-shot from Danny Bolt was lost in flight by Lee Worgan, and it flukily ended up in the back of the net. Possibly the young Welshman's first error since joining the Ducks. 1-0 Sutton
With the Ducks apparently not interested in the game, Sutton continued to press. Danny Bolt was running the show for the visitors, as they fashioned a number of chances. Bolt's free-kick went over the bar, before Matt Gray completely mis-hit a volley which he sliced well wide.
Unfortunately for Gareth Risbridger, his match ended early as he was replaced by Adam Campion, after about quarter of an hours play. Aylesbury's first notable effort on goal came predictably from Craig Maskell, as he hit a right-footed effort over the bar.
However, it was Sutton who were firmly in control, and their lead was doubled after 22 minutes. Mark Burgess gave the ball away cheaply, and Mark Watson ran the ball to the byeline, before delivering a superb ball. Mark Fowler made a darting run to the near post, and was able to meet the ball and guide it into the net. 2-0 Sutton
The supporters were awakened after Watson lunged into Worgan after the keeper had claimed the ball, and the game suddenly had an edge to it. Aylesbury started to liven themselves up a bit as half time aproached. Maskell and Campion both had chances, with Maskell's well off target, and Campions producing a good low save from Dunn. The ball cannoned up, but Bangura couldn't quite reach it with his overhead kick.
Maskell's opportunities were all falling on his right foot, which was unfortunate for the player-assistant manager. His final effort of the half saw him roll a shot just wide of the far post. On the verge of half-time, a clever Sutton free-kick routine saw the ball delivered to the near post, where Gray met it but missed the excellent chance of killing the game before half time.
The second half began with optimism from the Ducks fans, and a change of formation for the team, as they tried to match Sutton's 5-3-2, by playing three centre backs (Gordon, Horner and McGrath), wing-backs (Campion and Burgess), 3 midfielders (Fist, Gell and Baker) and Maskell and Baggy up front. However, Sutton were soon back on the offensive, as Fowler nipped in behind the Ducks rearguard, but couldn't beat Worgan.
The Ducks desperately tried to get a goal, and hopefully a point from the game. A cross-shot from Burgess nearly crept in, but instead went wide for a corner. After a number of successive corners and throw-ons, Aylesbury finally mustered an effort on goal, as Maskell managed to head the ball, albeit straight at the keeper. Adam Campion wriggled free in the box and released a shot, only to see it saved on the near post by Dunn.
Just as it looked like the home side would sneak a goal, Sutton went up the other end and scored. Worgan came out to collect a ball, but somehow was beaten to it. The original effort was finely saved by the keeper, but he could only palm it backwards onto the head of Bailey and into the net. If it wasn't before, the result was now well and truly settled. 3-0 Sutton
To their credit the Ducks didn't let their heads drop too much, and still did their best to get a goal. However, only half chances were dropping their way, as a Maskell looping header and a Richard Gell long shot weren't enough to trouble Dunn. A Maskell free-kick hit the wall, before Richard Horner drove the rebound well over, with Dunn remaining untested again.
As the game wore on it became clear that the Ducks were not likely to score today, even if they played all night. And just to add to the misery, Sutton added a fourth to their tally, as a break down in communication at the back saw Danny Gordon play 3 Sutton attackers onside, and they queued up to send the ball home. In the end it was Bolt who got the goal, and his second of the match. 4-0 Sutton
