The match started with Hitchin's James Ayres heading wide a cross when well placed and not picked up. Carl Drew then got himself booked for kicking the ball away after an offside decision. A Hitchin cross was whipped in, and beat everyone, including keeper Isaac Rukundo, but was well cleared by Dean Coppard on the goal-line.
Matt Nolan wasn't closed down, and allowed a shot at goal, which required a good tip wide by Rukundo. Aylesbury then had their first chance, on a counter-attack. Adam Campion broke with pace down the right-flank, and found himself with only the keeper to beat. After rounding the keeper though, his goalbound shot was excellently blocked by Craig Rydeheard.
Dean Coppard of all people then had a good chance, after he found himself free at the back post. His effort was smothered by James Robinson.
Aylesbury took the lead after 34 minutes. Greg Williams played an excellent through ball, which a suspiciously offside looking Canoville ran onto, and coolly slotted past he advancing Robinson. 1-0 Aylesbury
Hitchin had a chance to eqalise almost straight away, as Dean Coppard miskicked, allowing Drew in, but his shot was always high of the goal. Rukundo was then called into action, as he held on well to a goalward header.
Half-time: Hitchin 0-1 Aylesbury
The second half started badly for the Ducks, as Chris Bangura was dismissed six minutes in, for a bad challenge. Over entusiastic may have been a better term for the challenge though, and a booking would have been sufficient.
Aylesbury then suffered another blow, as Hitchin equalised. Matt Nolan took full advantage of the huge gap in the Ducks backline, running free and lobbing the ball into the top corner, over the desparing Rukundo. 1-1
The Ducks then survived two penalty appeals, both involving Carl Drew. The first was the strongest, as the striker appeared to be pushed over by Coppard. The second saw him sent sprawling, but the referee was again having none of it.
Aylesbury made amends for their poor start to the half by retaking the lead, after 57 minutes. A free-kick was whipped in by Campion, and Greg Williams got the slightest of headers to direct the ball into the net. 2-1 Aylesbury
Rukundo was forced to make an excellent save, after Nolan brought down a ball and hit a left-footed shot. Some good play by Alvin Bubb at the other end saw the ball squared. Tom Alabaster tried a shot which was always off-target.
After another effort from Drew, he was shown his second yellow card and dismissed.
Disaster then struck, as the home side equalised for the second time. Adan Parker waltzed past four or five tackles, and was given time and space to pick his spot. 2-2
As the game came to an end, neither side wanted to risk too much and looked happy enough to claim a point. This was a much better performance from the Ducks, and if we can play this well every game then things will improve.
