The match started promisingly for Aylesbury, as Greg Williams showed determination to win the ball in midfield, before going on a run and shooting, but the ball was comfortably held by Dave King. A long range Campion free-kick was then parried by King, and Bangura couldn't force the ball home under pressure.
Hendon's first effort on goal came after fifteen minutes, although it was well off target. A free-kick routine was worked to Steve Forbes, but he lashed his effort way over the bar.
Aylesbury came close, as a Hendon defender was forced to head a good whipped delivery behind, with Greg Williams waiting to pounce. Two minutes later, and Aylesbury took the lead. The ball scrambled through to Bangura in the box from a long Campion throw, and he managed to poke the ball home past King. 1-0 Aylesbury
Sadly, Aylesbury were unable to hold onto their lead, and the curse of bad defending struck again. The ball wasn't cleared properly, and found it's way across to Dave Hunt who easily put the ball home. 1-1
1-1 was a pretty fair reflection up to this point, with both teams looking reasonable, although short on goalscoring chances. Aylesbury were once more lacking in ideas up front.
Hendon nearly took the lead just before half-time, as the pacey Eugene Ofori broke through. Danny Gordon used his own pace to catch up, and he, Kevin Davies and Ofori collided to prevent a goal. Gordon picked up an injury in the process, and was to be withdrawn at half-time.
Half-time: Aylesbury 1-1 Hendon
The second half saw Kevin Wilson make a double substitution. Dean Powles replaced the unfortunate Danny Gordon, and Leon Gordon replaced Alex Stanley on the left wing.
Hendon had an excellent chance after ten minutes of the half. An incisive break away saw Ofori fed by keeper King, before squaring the ball to the unmarked Scott Cousins, but his powerful shot was straight at Davies.
Greg Williams nearly scored with an audacious overhead kick, which dropped just wide. Dean Coppard then read the game well in seizing upon a Hendon through ball, running forward but could only shoot tamely into King's arms.
Ten minutes later, Ofori broke free again, but his shot was saved by Davies. Ricardo Alves, on as a substitute, then called Davies to make the best save of the night, with a long-range shot that was just creeping inside the post.
The Brazilian was at it again minutes later, as he was put clear of the defence, but was thwarted by a fantastic saving tackle by debutant Chris Jackson.
With six minutes to go, Lewis Pritchard added some fresh legs up front, and nearly made an instant impact. Taking the ball from Bangura, Pritchard unleashed a half-volley, but it was comfortably held by King.
Aylesbury then had a late penalty appeal, as Bangura went down in the box under a challenge from a defender, but it would have been very harsh.
So a good point for the Ducks, and now time for Kevin Wilson to get down to some wheeling and dealing. With 10 days until the next game, the squad could have a totally different feel about it when we get to Harrow.
