The match started as badly for Aylesbury as could be. After four minutes Heybridge had a great chance to score as Neil Cousins was put clean through, but the Kevin Davies was alert and rushed out to block the shot.
After fifteen minutes Adam Campion was given his marching orders for a high-challenge. A yellow card would perhaps have been adequate punishment, but there were few complaints.
With their numerical advantage, and Aylesbury struggling to adapt, Heybridge looked to capitalise. Adam Gillespie shot a good effort just over the far corner when well placed, before the lively Neil Cousins stole in and also placed his shot over the bar.
Then came a substitution for the Ducks that was to prove crucial - the unfortunate Danny Gray, suffering from Asthma, was replaced by Alvin Bubb.
As Aylesbury looked to settle in with their new 4-3-2 shape, a 10-minute period without much action followed.
After 32 minutes though, the Ducks took the lead. The excellent Matt Glynn beat his defender with a classy stepover, before playing the ball to Alvin Bubb in the box. Bubb appeared to have taken too long in firing his shot in, but the ball deflected off a Heybridge player and into the net. 1-0 Aylesbury
The only further notable points of the first half were a long-range effort from Greg Williams which was well wide, and Gillespie receiving a booking for a late challenge.
Half-time: Heybridge 0-1 Aylesbury
The second half, predictably, saw Heybridge resurgent as they tried to make their numerical advantage pay dividends. Alvin Bubb dropped back into a less effective left-midfielder role, leaving Darren Lynch up front on his own, as United looked to protect their lead.
Kevin Davies made a great stop two minutes into the half to preserve the lead, after the Aylesbury defence had failed to clear a ball, and lost posession.
Heybridge's James Robinson almost scored following a good move forward, but placed his shot over the bar, before the Heybridge pressure lead to an inevitible goal. Andy Tomlinson went on an excellent run, before crossing the ball from the byeline to the far post, where an unmarked player easily nodded the ball home. 1-1
Aylesbury were hanging on at this point, as Heybridge had the momentum and drive forward. Withing three minutes of the goal another attack saw a shot squeezed wide of the post.
The Ducks somehow weathered the Heybridge storm, and started to keep the ball a bit more themselves. As the posession started to increase, Aylesbury managed to create some chances of their own.
Little by little United turned the screw on their opponents. A Greg Williams mid-air volley spectaculaire went just wide of the post.
Inside the last ten minutes, and Aylesbury were on top of the game. Bubb was put through by substitute Rory Hunter, after 84 minutes, but he shot just wide of the post when faced only by the keeper.
Bubb then returned the compliment and put Hunter through, and the young midfielder should have scored when 1-on-1, but his effort was smothered by the keeper.
Five minutes of injury time later, and Aylesbury fans were happy to settle for a point. The players had other ideas though. Matt Glynn set Alvin Bubb on his way again, clean through, 1-on-1, and this time the forward made no mistake, slotting the ball home well. 2-1 Aylesbury
So Aylesbury somehow won this match, despite playing over 75 minutes with 10-men. The Ducks showed great spirit to weather the Heybridge pressure, particurlary in the early part of the first half, and in coming back and winning the game.
