There were a number of changes from Saturday's draw - Greg Williams slotted into right-back in place of the absent Jamie Moss, Alvin Bubb returned to the left-wing, Josh Sozzo made his debut on the right, Tom Ramasut was shifted into the centre, and Mark Reed replaced Matt Glynn up front.
As is so often the case, the Ducks started brightly, but it proved to be a false dawn. Alvin Bubb nearly connected with a dropping ball, but was just beaten to it by keeper Micky Desborough.
An indication of what was to come was sounded by Stortford in the ninth minute, as Steven Morrison got clear of the defence, rounded Kevin Davies, but took the ball one step too far and couldn't squeeze his shot in.
Five minutes later though, and the Aylesbury defence spectacularly collapsed to allow Stortford to take the lead. A ball was initially flapped at by Davies, before being half cleared. The result was a cross played in, which again wasn't dealt with, before Aaron Barnett squeezed a shot through a bundle of players, which beat Davies. 1-0 Bishop's Stortford
Aylesbury were providing little cheer for the freezing crowd, although Tom Ramasut flashed an effort wide, and Mark Reed connected with a Darren Lynch knock-down, and half-volleyed a tame effort.
The same player threatened again with a hooked volley, but the ball dropped just wide. Alvin Bubb, one of the livelier Ducks in the first half, then broke free before seeing a good effort deflected wide. Again Lynch was the provider, flicking on an aerial ball.
To say the least, it was a poor first half. Neither side looked inspirational going forward, and chances were few and far between. Poor defending had cost the home side a goal though, and it was to prove costly.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-0 Bishop's Stortford
If the first half was uneventful, then the second half was non-existant. A heavy fog descended upon Buckingham Road, rendering visibility poor to very poor at stages. Conditions were hard going, but there can be no excuses - the Ducks simply weren't good enough.
The best of the opening fifteen second half minutes was a cross-cum-shot from Tom Ramasut, which dropped onto the roof of the net, drawing ripples of applause from the iced over crowd.
Kevin Wilson made a double substitution to try and lift the Ducks, Rory Hunter and Danny Gordon replacing Alvin Bubb and Josh Sozzo.
Sadly, it had little effect on the game, although there was a little more life amongst the ranks. A rare effort on goal from Lynch, a strong half volley, had Desborough beaten, but sadly so was the post.
Ramasut then burst forward, but instead of driving an effort, he tried to accurately place the ball, and saw it easily held by Desborough.
That, really was that for Aylesbury. With fifteen minutes still to play United found their attacks stifled by the visitors, and it was Stortford who had the best chance in the final stages. A corner was headed over.
The referee grew into a more dominant figure as the game came to a close, issuing three yellow cards for petty offences; offences amounting mostly from frustration on the part of Aylesbury.
It was a frustrating night all round. The Ducks just couldn't raise their game at any point tonight, and once Stortford had a goal, the result looked pretty safe. We could probably still be playing, and we wouldn't have scored! All a far cry from the excellence that was a 2-2 draw at Kettering, or a 1-0 win at Grays...
