Yet again Aylesbury's hesitancy in the early stages of a match cost them dearly, and they were a goal down after just eleven minutes. A corner was taken short, and played to the edge of the area. With the Ducks slow to close him down, Rene Street managed to curl in a looping shot over Mark Bunn. 1-0 Northwood
The goal was somewhat against the run of play, although the visitors had another chance three minutes later, as Mark Nicholls cut inside and fired a left-footed shot straight at Bunn.
Darren Lynch looked to get on the scoresheet around the twenty minutes mark. First he took a shot from distance, which went just wide, before connecting with a corner which dropped easily into the arms of keeper Rob Bullivant.
Paul Covington then came closest to scoring for the Ducks. A corner was flapped at by Bullivant, and Covington placed a firm header towards goal, which just hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.
Alvin Bubb had a great chance, as he received the ball in a central position with only Bullivant to beat. Unfortunately his touch took him too close to the keeper, and his shot was well stopped. For Northwood a cross found it's way across to the unattended Jamie Charles, who placed an effort wide from all of four-yards.
Gary Meakin had a chance for Northwood as he wriggled into the box, before firing wide. Aylesbury came back again, and Lynch saw a header held, and Mark Reed could only find the side netting after rounding Bullivant.
The final action an entertaining first half saw Josh Sozzo try a speculative 40-yard free-kick which went just over the bar.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Northwood
The second half saw a positive start by Aylesbury, as Alvin Bubb had a chance blocked, and Mark Reed saw his shot plucked out of the air by Bullivant after a good burst forward.
Unfortunately though, it was Northwood who scored. Mark Nicholls got away down the left flank, and crossed for Jamie Charles to smash the ball home. 2-0 Northwood
This time there was a reply from the home side, as they pulled a goal back. Aaran Cavill slid the ball home under immense pressure to claim a scrappy goal. 2-1 Northwood
As United tried to get an equaliser, Northwood had some success with counter-attacking. Mark Bunn made a top save to deny a player with a powerful header from a corner.
The Ducks were still seeing plenty of the ball, but as in the first half were struggling to really threaten the Northwood goal. Alvin Bubb looked dangerous at times, but his deliveries were often lacking in quality.
After one Bubb run, the ball was squared for Greg Williams to hit a fierce drive well wide of the target. Soon after and the ball was squared again, this time for substitute Tom Ramasut, who fired just wide of the other post with his right-foot.
Mark Reed came close, having fought his way into the box, but could only find the side-netting again, from a difficult angle. Ramasut then saw a good looking drive deflected off-target. Another deflected shot, this time from Cavill, epitimised Northwood's solid defending under great pressure.
The Ducks tried and tried, but couldn't find a way through Northwood's well organised defence. In fact, it was the visitors who came closest to scoring in the closing stages, as Dave Sargent called Bunn into action with a shot across goal.
So another home defeat for Aylesbury. It wasn't so long ago that we were talking about winning all our games in December. However, today we simply weren't good enough, and Northwood can be proud of their defensive display.
