Most of the positives from an Aylesbury perspective came early in the match, through the trickery of Byron Bubb. It was his good work down the right flank which fashioned a second minute opening for Daniel Mead. His effort was well placed, but lacked the power to beat George Clark in goal.
Byron then found himself clean through, after St. Albans allowed the ball to bounce over their defence. Unfortunately the ball wouldn't fall to be hit first time, and the eventual shot went just over the bar, although Clark was beaten.
St. Albans responded immediately, and Neil Gough had a header easily held, before Rasid made his first good save from a point blank header from Adam Parker. Parker turned provider two minutes later, delivering a sublime ball which Steve Watts headed goalwards. Again, Rashid saved.
Another chance came the way of St.Albans, after a mix-up between Rashid and the Aylesbury defence. The keeper came out, and was beaten, and whilst re-taking up his position in goal St. Albans crossed the ball, but Greg Deacon could only head well over.
The away side caught the Aylesbury defence napping, as they broke forward to score after twenty-seven minutes. The backline found themselves outnumbered, and a cross was slotted home by Declan Perkins for his first St. Albans goal. 1-0 St. Albans
This was the last act of the first half, as the game degenerated into a show of posession from the hosts, without further chances of note.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 St. Albans
Half-time saw Paul Curtis make a double subsitution - replacing John Winter and Donovan Reed with Matt Hayward and Ryan Wiffin. The two substitutes would certainly give some extra height to the team.
Aylesbury made the running early in the second half, much like the first, but only one chance of note was created. A superb ball sprayed out to Mead was crossed in first time, and glanced wide by Alex Giscombe.
Rather unsurprisingly St. Albans doubled their lead, but once again it was down to uncharacteristic lax defending from Aylesbury. A corner was headed by Miguel De Souza, and it squeezed in at the far post. 2-0 St. Albans
Aylesbury were visibly deflated, and Saints continued in an effort to add to their scoreline. Watts had a shot go over the bar, and Perkins broke forward and having chested the ball crashed a half-volley wide of the post.
In the final ten minutes St. Albans could, and probably should, have increased their lead. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball cleared off the line by Adam Garner. Then, in the very closing stages, Rashid pulled off a fantastic double save - first saving from Lee Clarke, and then Chris Seeby, both at point blank range.
So it ended 0-2 and another miserable afternoon for Aylesbury United. With only three games remaining, and the club now certain to finish bottom, the fans are only looking forward to the end of the season.
