The match started at a high tempo, and Matt Hayward went close with a header from a corner kick, and Dean Cracknell half-volleyed wide having been played in by Greg Williams. At the other end Banbury saw a goalbound header well saved by Jack Rashid at full stretch.
Hayward headed another corner wide minutes later, before Daniel Mead closed down a poor clearance from Simon Tricker, but couldn't steer his effort into the vacant goal.
Some neat play around Aylesbury's penalty area finally resulted in George Redknapp pulling a shot wide, before the game came back down to the other end of the pitch, where Cracknell fired wide having had the ball laid down by Paul Edgeworth.
Tricker was called upon to make a great save after twenty-four minutes - reacting smartly to Cracknell's header which was creeping into the bottom corner. From the resulting corner Cracknell's shot was deflected wide.
Rashid made another good block, this time on his near post, after a player ran through and struck a fierce effort. A corner was then headed wide, and Liam O'Neill saw a shot easily held as Banbury turned up the heat.
Chances were still coming from all directions for both teams - a theme which continued throughout the game. Edgeworth shot well over having turned sharply, and Jaggard had a similar effort which was deflected into Tricker's arms.
Banbury took the lead in the 38th minute through their top scorer Howard Forinton. Jack Rashid lost the flight of the ball from a corner, leaving Forinton to easily finish into the empty net. 1-0 Banbury
Aylesbury looked to hit back straight away - and Colin Baker volleyed over a corner which had only been half-cleared. Banbury also had a chance to extend their lead further as Chris Potter trickily ran at the Ducks backline, but his shot lacked the power to beat Rashid.
Half-time: Banbury 1-1 Aylesbury
As against Solihull ten-days previously, the Ducks came out of the dressing room fired up and looking to immediately level the game. And once again they did. After Edgeworth saw a cross plucked out of the air by Tricker, it was the former Newport Pagnell man who set-up the equaliser. A lovely move saw Jaggard pass to Edgeworth, who spread it wide to Baker. The youngster set-off on a run in from the wing, and crashed the ball past the helpless Tricker. 1-1
Aylesbury began to dominate the second-half, and there was little their Oxfordshire opponents could do about it. Neat play around the edge of the box resulted in Jaggard firing an effort wide, and the former Hitchin man had another effort well blocked in the area.
Another great chance to take the lead came from a free-kick - Paul Lamb playing the ball into Cracknell, who slipped the ball quickly to Jaggard. Unfortunately the striker couldn't react and the ball came off his shin and went well over the bar.
A flowing move from the Ducks then saw Jaggard play in Baker, who went for his second goal, but his low strike was saved by the legs of Tricker. A Lamb corner was then headed wide again by Hayward, who could have had a hat-trick!
The Ducks then thought their hard work had paid off, with the ball hitting the back of the net after 67 minutes. A Lamb free-kick was flicked on by Edgeworth, and nodded in by Jaggard. As the striker turned to celebrate the linesman deemed him to have been offside, and the goal was ruled out.
Another chance came two minutes later. Cracknell beat his man superbly by letting the ball run, and he fed Williams who hit a powerful half-volley just over the bar.
Banbury had a rare chance of their own, substitute Matt Brandish comically shooting well over the bar from just inside the area, before Lamb tried an ambitious long-range effort for Aylesbury. It was to be the captain's last action of the game - as he was withdrawn with an injury and replaced by Jay Gould.
Rashid made another save from a Banbury header, and Cracknell headed wide a Folds cross for Aylesbury, with the game entering the latter stages.
Baker tried again for his second goal, with ex-Duck Jason Burnham hesitating to reach a loose ball, Baker lashed a shot just wide of the post. Daniel Mead then came forward, and under no pressure decided to have a go himself, but his effort curled the wrong side of the post.
Banbury had one superb chance in the closing moments to snatch three points from the game. Hitting United on the counter-attack, the ball was played in to unattended substitute Jody McKay, and from close range he touched the ball wide.
This was the last chance of the match, and Banbury will be the happier of the two sides with the draw. Aylesbury will be satisfied, but can look back with an element of frustration at a second half they dominated but were unable to convert their chances.
