The first half was an uninspiring affair, but the home side could have taken the lead just three minutes in. A deep corner dropped to Leon Barnett, and his effort was turned goalwards by an Aylesbury player, but miraculously cleared off the line.
At the other end Yeltz' top scorer Richard Burgess had a fierce shot go over the bar, before Edgeworth dribbled forward with the ball, eventually shooting wide.
Midway through the first-half Halesowen had two good chances, as Alex Cowley drilled a low shot wide of the post after some neat attacking play. Burgess saw Jack Rashid called into action for the first time, as the Aylesbury number 1 easily held his volley.
United ended the first half as the stronger side. Great play by Gutzmore resulted in a low ball being played to Jay Gould, but his effort was turned deflected over by a last ditch tackle from a defender. Gutzmore then released Paul Edgeworth, but his finish was wayward, fired high and wide with the whole goal to aim at.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-0 Halesowen
The second half was an improvement, although both teams still lacked a cutting edge up front. Jason Moore came forward, but his poor effort went out for a throw in on the far side. Gutzmore then tried a spectacular dipping volley, which went over the bar, and Edgeworth headed over a flicked-on long-throw.
Halesowen't best effort of the game brought about the only decent save of the game. Moore again was given space to turn, and his fierce effort was excellently saved by the solitary hand of Jack Rashid.
It was in the final fifteen minutes of the game that Aylesbury began to get a foothold on the match though. Neil Lazarus blazed a volley over the crossbar, after a deep cross had dropped to him, and Greg Williams tried a long-range effort which went just wide of Taylor's post.
Substitute Danny Gray had an effort well blocked by a defender, before the home side took the lead four minutes from the end. Edgeworth made himself top-scorer, collecting the ball on the left-flank, running towards goal and crashing the ball past Taylor. 1-0 Aylesbury
The Yeltz tried in vein to hit back, but the closest they came was defender Steve Pope smashing a shot over the bar. In fact, the Ducks nearly increased their advantage through Gray, who broke free on the counter-attack, but his effort was smothered by Taylor down low.
Halesowen will have every reason to be disappointed with the result. Having beaten Banbury 4-1 last week, they never truly looked like a side at the top of the league, and United capitalised with the late winner. And a rare clean sheet too!
