Gavin Jaggard's broken hand was sufficiently healed to allow him to take his place in what was effectively a six-man midfield, with he and Daniel French given the freedom to roam where they liked on the pitch and link up with frontman Drew Roberts. It worked a treat throughout the afternoon with the Wiltshire sides' defence seldom able to contain the trio.
Aylesbury were on top from the beginning, and Greg Williams should've scored as early as the third minute when he found himself unmarked to win French's corner-kick, but his effort rebounded off the crossbar.
Moments later Liam Folds also missed a good headed opportunity, from another good French delivery the former Bedford defender headed wide of the target.
French himself then worked hard to win the ball from a defender, but he couldn't get hold of his shot and Mark Hervin remained untested.
The Ducks soon had their much deserved lead though. In the sixteenth minute Roberts used his pace to sprint clear of Ian Herring, and deliver an accurate low ball to pick out the run of Williams who slid the ball home. 1-0 Aylesbury
There was a brief scare from Chippenham, as Jack Rashid, on his 34th birthday, spilled the ball under pressure and can be grateful to Daniel Mead who was in the right place to block a shot on the line.
All was forgotten in the 29th minute though when Aylesbury increased their advantage. Roberts sprung the offside trap, this time breaking away down the right, and again his low ball was accurately played - picking out Jaggard who managed to convert for his fifth Ducks goal.2-0 Aylesbury
Roberts caused more problems for Chippenham's backline, as he used his pace to break away, but under heavy pressure from Rene Regis could only guide his effort over the bar.
Mead then missed a gilt-edged chance to put the match further beyond the visitors' reach. A quickly taken free-kick caught the Bluebirds unawares, and Mead snuck in all alone but with the whole goal to aim at guided his header wide of the post.
Half-time: Aylesbury 2-0 Chippenham
Chippenham improved slightly in the second half, and Rashid had to be alert to tip over David Gilroy's well struck volley ten minutes after the restart. Ian Herring then dribbled forward from centre-back, but his floating cross-cum-shot was never troubling the Aylesbury keeper.
Roberts and French linked up well again, with the latter being played in by Roberts down the right-flank. His deep cross was fumbled by Hervin, but Mead at the far-post could only manage to lash a volley over the bar with the goal gaping.
On 72 minutes Buckingham Road was illuminated by one of the best individual goals seen for some time. Collecting the ball on the left-flank, French began a run that took him past two Chippenham players, before unleashing a powerful effort that found the bottom corner of the net. A wonderful effort. 3-0 Aylesbury
At 3-0 the result seemed beyond doubt, and all Aylesbury had to do was close the game down. Unfortunately that is something the Ducks have been unable to do all season, and as their play grew more ragged with each passing minute, an air of nervousness descended upon Buckingham Road.
It was intensified with eleven minutes remaining when defender Gary Thorne popped up to nod the ball home and net what appeared only to be a consolation strike for the visitors. 3-1 Aylesbury
French's hard-work presented United with another chance, as he hustled goalkeeper Hervin into a poor clearance which dropped to substitute Edgeworth. Unfortunately his effort from 20-yards wasn't good enough to beat the Chippenham stopper.
With the game entering the final stages it was end to end stuff. Mead went on a mazy run, beating a man but firing a shot over, whilst Gilroy tried to catch Rashid out on his near-post to no avail.
As the match entered stoppage time Chippenham turned up the heat with another goal. A dangerous curling corner was carried in by the wind, with Thorne claiming the final touch for his second of the afternoon. 3-2 Aylesbury
Despite a long spell of stoppage time added on by the referee, the visitors couldn't embarrass Aylesbury by snatching a dramatic equaliser, and the full-time whistle sounded on another important victory for Danny Nicholls' men.
