Aylesbury came close to causing an upset against their League One opponents Swindon Town, in their opening pre-season friendly of 2005/06.
Drew Roberts had given United the lead in the second half, but Swindon rallied late on and recovered to win 2-1.
Featuring a strong line-up including new signings Jamie Cureton, Tony Thorpe and Gareth Whalley, Swindon could easily have been expected to stroll to victory. But although they created the better chances in the first half, it ended goalless.
The second period was more eventful. Cureton volleyed well over, before the Ducks took the lead. A great ball from midfielder Jamie Kearns found Roberts in space inside the area, and he took a touch before calmly stroking the ball home. 1-0 Aylesbury
The lively striker nearly made it two when he ran onto a Matt Hayward through ball, but substitute keeper Matty Bulard was up to the challenge of saving his low effort. Aylesbury's second half stopper Sam Styles, playing his first game for the club, then made a magnificent save to deny a Cureton point-blank header.
Rory Fallon should've done better with a towering header, before Cureton levelled the match after 66 minutes, slotting home calmly after being allowed too much room. 1-1
Then came a bizarre moment in the game, as Aylesbury substitute Jay Gould was asked to take a Swindon shirt, as the away side were reduced to ten players following injury.
Predictably Gould then made a burst down the left flank, hung up an accurate cross which just begged to be put away by Fallon, and the tall striker duly obliged to score the winner for Swindon with four minutes remaining. 2-1 Swindon
Styles made another good save, before Mr James called time on a game which marked the return to Aylesbury of old boys Danny Gordon, Roni Joe and Richard Horner, and the first game for Darran Hay.
