Even so, it was another clean sheet for the Ducks, amazingly their fourth in succession as well as a good display of clinicism in front of goal. There was even time for Gary Crawshaw to emerge from the bench and roll-back the years with a classically cool finish.
Yate started brightest though, and they unlocked Aylesbury's backline early on, Paul Chenoweth slotting the ball wide.
United then began to slowly come into the game, Darran Hay volleying well over and Gavin Jaggard seeing a shot charged down inside the area. Hay got underneath a Daniel Mead corner kick, heading over the target.
Steve Campbell had two efforts for the Bluebells, firstly bringing the ball down on his chest before volleying over the bar. Campbell then ran into the box, but Jack Rashid was alert and quickly smothered the effort in conjunction with his defenders around.
Drew Roberts came close after Mead had played the ball inside to him. The striker turned and fired an instant shot just wide, with goalkeeper Tony Court rooted to the spot.
Aylesbury were given a scare at the other end, Adam Sims breaking from midfield and being allowed a free-header. Fortunately his effort was wide of the target.
Five minutes before the break though United, and Roberts in particular, showed a bit of magic to take the lead. The former Kettering hitman controlled a high ball with his left-foot, cut inside and left his marker on the floor, before firing past the helpless Court. 1-0 Aylesbury
Mead went for a spectacular second soon after, attempting to volley home Edgeworth's cross field pass. It would have been some goal had the ball hit the target.
Half-time: Aylesbury United 1-0 Yate Town
With the Ducks usually stronger in the second half under Danny Nicholls, half-time talk was of further goals and indeed a second was soon to come. Paul Edgeworth got off the mark for the season, heading Scott McCafferty's pinpoint cross into the bottom corner of the net. 2-0 Aylesbury
Two minutes later though, and Aylesbury had Rashid to thank as Yate tried to haul themselves back into the game. Justin Pritchard found himself clean through, but Rashid stood firm and stopped the initial effort, and then smothered Pritchard's follow-up attempt.
Defender Dave Elsey then forced his way into the area, but Rashid was equal to his placed effort with a diving save. His throw released Edgeworth, who played the ball to substitute Roni Joe's feet in the area, but he couldn't get hold of his shot.
Yate's Sims hit a 25-yard speculator which was easily fielded by Rashid, and youngster Dolman had a fierce drive deflected wide at the other end. Joe should have done better fifteen minutes from time, heading Roberts' excellent cross wide having positioned himself well.
Rashid was forced to make the save of the game, striker Kevin Slack showing determination to work his way in field and hit a powerful effort which Rashid splendidly tipped over the bar.
Aston Goss headed another cross from Roberts wide, before Crawshaw added a flattering third. Roberts broke free with pace on the right, and picked out the veteran striker, who calmly stroked the ball home. 3-0 Aylesbury
Aylesbury's pace was causing Yate's defence problems in the closing stages, and Roni Joe went on a run, but the final shot didn't match what proceeded.
McCafferty kept United's clean sheet in tact by clearing a goal bound header off the line in the dying seconds, before Joe was booked in the last action of the game for a theatrical dive in the penalty area.
