Banbury United ensured Aylesbury will be looking for their first League win in two months when they visit Hitchin on Saturday, after the Puritans ran out 2-1 winners in this entertaining encounter at Spencer Stadium.
The home side sounded an early warning after five minutes when Chris Potter had a shot deflected wide, after the Ducks had given away possession.
Six minutes later Jamie Kearns headed a Drew Roberts' delivery wide after the striker had been put free down the right flank.
It was Aylesbury who drew first blood after both teams had begun to settle down. Kearns played an excellent through ball which found its way through to Roberts, and he raced into the area before finishing well past Simon Tricker. 1-0 Aylesbury
The lead lasted just seven minutes though, before Banbury leveled having put the Ducks under an increasing amount of pressure. A great ball into the box from Les Robinson was nodded down by Matty Gooderick, and smashed home by top-scorer Andy Baird. 1-1
The game was a keenly contested affair throughout the first half, with both sides seeing plenty of the ball. With no team able to break the other down, chances were limited, but Aylesbury had the better of what remained before the interval.
Matt Hayward sent Roberts on his way again, but after some trickery in the area he found goalkeeper Tricker able to pluck his effort out of the air.
Right on half-time a free-kick was headed down by Rob Gould, and when the ball was cleared as far as Liam Folds he delivered it back in but Gould could only head over the bar.
Banbury 1-1 Aylesbury
Banbury started the second half in buoyant fashion and nearly took the lead in the first minute. Gooderick flew in at the near post to fire Darren Pond's free-kick wide, before Pond himself had a header deflected wide after Ollie Stanbridge's excellent cross.
Aylesbury were keen to show they were still a force, although Daniel Mead's effort only threatened the trees behind the goal when he got well underneath his shot.
Gould then forced Tricker to tip the ball over, having directed a header just under the crossbar at a corner kick.
The hosts weren't going to be denied though, and scored a scrappy second on 68 minutes. A cross played in caused havoc in the Aylesbury box, and as the ball bobbled around and wasn't dealt with, ex-Duck Paul Lamb was on hand to fire home. 2-1 Banbury
The tidy football on display from Aylesbury in the first half had sadly now vanished, and was replaced with a long ball style that smacked of desperation from the visitors.
Jamie Kearns was replaced by Dean Powles, and Drew Roberts made way for youngster Aston Goss, as Danny Nicholls looked to shuffle his pack.
Goss went close to scoring his first goal for the club minutes after coming on. Gavin Jaggard had an effort well saved by Tricker, and as Edgeworth hung up a cross from the rebound, Goss' header was cleared off the line to safety.
With the Greens pushing more men forward as the game wore on, the inevitable gaps started to appear which Banbury weren't shy in exploiting. Danger man Baird burst through, but was probably too unselfish in his approach, squaring the ball for Potter whose finish was tame to say the least.
Baird then had another great chance having beaten Aylesbury's tired looking defence, but his effort was placed just wide and trickled past the far post.
Aylesbury threatened with a couple of late efforts, as Goss dragged a shot wide having dribbled infield, and Folds cracked a 25-yard drive over the bar, but it wasn't to be their night and Banbury held on for the points.
