In an awful opening half hour, the Ducks were time and time again simply brushed off the ball by their more physical opponents, who were able to win every ball right across the pitch.
Sutton took the lead after just seven minutes. Some poor marking was on display from a corner, and although the ball was just about scrambled away it was worked back to the left wing. The cross seemed a simple claim for Tom Vincent, but as he waited for the ball to come to him Hatton nipped in first to toe-poke the ball home past the rooted goalkeeper. 1-0 Sutton
The home side went close again ten minutes later when Davion Hamilton powered his way into the area, but saw his left foot shot come back off the upright.
Aylesbury were making little progress, finding themselves unable to play any kind of passing game, and their best chances in the first half came from set-pieces. A free-kick delivery from Aston Goss found Andy Shed, but his header lacked any power and went wide.
Town's lead was doubled after twenty-three minutes, and again it was a soft goal conceded by the Ducks. A cross came in from the right, Aylesbury's marking was atrocious, and Hebberd comfortably headed past the flailing Vincent. 2-0 Aylesbury
After their horror show opening half-hour, Aylesbury managed to regroup and began to compete a little better in the remainder of the first half. This was arguably their best spell in the game, but they crucially couldn't pull a goal back.
Sam Page fired in a low effort having connected with a corner at the near-post, before Enzo Silvestri wasted an excellent chance having been picked out from a free-kick but not making proper connection with his header when unmarked.
Then in the closing stages of the half Brett Court retrieved an overhit corner kick, did well to beat two men on the touchline, but having gone for glory saw his shot zip wide of the near post.
United were soon back on the pitch after the interval, either an indication of their willingness to get on with things or that they'd been forced out early by manager Jon Franklin.
There was a marked improvement in United's game, but overcoming Sutton's two-goal deficit was always a tough ask, with the home defence giving nothing away.
If there was to be any chance of a comeback, an early goal would be needed, and Pringle had the chance to score such a goal. Liam Smyth did well on the right to get in the cross, but Pringle, like Shed and Silvestri before him, mistimed his header attempt and the ball skimmed off his head wide.
Sutton were comfortable on their lead, and were happy to allow Aylesbury to try and break them down. They had a chance on the counter-attack when the ball was played into Craig Owen, who managed to turn and hit a shot which deflected straight through to Vincent.
Aylesbury fashioned their best move of the game two minutes later, a fantastic ball finding Silvestri on the right, who played a first time ball into the area for Pringle, who chose to wastefully volley an effort well off target.
At the other end the home side responded by putting together a similar flowing move of their own, which was rounded off by livewire Davion Hamilton heading wide a cross he was just stretching for.
United tried to liven things up by bringing on striker Craig Henney in place of Aston Goss (who the locals took great delight in thinking shared the name of 'Aston Cross', a place nearby).
Matt Butler then found his way into the referee's notebook for persistant fouling, having had a couple of previous warnings.
Luke Melisi also made a substitute appearance, as the game completely petered out. Pringle turned and had a shot easily held by Shaun Hayes, to wrap up a frustrating afternoon for him.
The only final event saw Butler stupidly shown a second yellow card, for what seemed to be his 6th or 7th late challenge of the afternoon.
Full-time was eventually blown, and with a two-week break from action following their Cup elimination, the Ducks have plenty of time to put things right after a bitterly disappointing week.
