Ross Taylor's 86th minute goal had looked to be enough ? the second time the Ducks had taken the lead in the game - but within two minutes a debatable penalty award saw the home side equalise and force extra time.
Bromley had started the better side, and Ben Judge went close from a corner kick after just three minutes before Garath McCleary and then Sam Wood both missed the target when well placed.
As the home side produced their best move of the first half, Peter Adeniyi should have done better when he slid the ball wide from inside the area after 20 minutes.
Aylesbury nearly scored with their first genuine attempt, Andy Walker forced to beat Swonnel's effort away and as Roni Joe closed in on the rebound the ball was taken off his toe for a corner.
The resulting set piece was met by Carl Kavanagh who flashed a header wide, as the Ducks began to take control of the game.
Four minutes later Taylor was denied by the woodwork as he retrieved the ball before driving for goal only to see his effort rebound off the inside of the post.
The visitors made their dominance count and took the lead on 33 minutes through Ben Stevens. As the struggling defence failed to deal with a cross, Stevens took full advantage by collecting the ball and lifting it over Walker.
United had the chances to double their lead before half-time, as first a free-kick fell to Nathan Graham in the box but his goalbound effort was deflected just over the bar. Nick Leach met the corner kick with a downward header which Walker made a good save to keep out.
Just before the interval a poor defensive header by Francis Duku dropped nicely for Graham whose looping header beat Walker but was cleared off the line at the very last moment by Steve Clark.
Half-time: Bromley 0-1 Aylesbury
As expected, Bromley improved after the interval and quickly tried to make their mark on the game when Williams forced Vincent into early action with a shot that had to be turned around the post.
Kavanagh went close with another header from a corner kick, after Walker had needlessly tipped the ball out of play from a shot that was going well wide.
Bromley's equaliser arrived on 61 minutes when Garath McCleary collected the ball in midfield and managed to get away from three Aylesbury challenges before placing an accurate low shot past Vincent.
The game continued to be exciting with chances for both sides ? Taylor heading wide a Miles cross for the Ducks, then Wood seeing a fierce effort charged down at the other end after a defensive clearance had fallen to him.
Aylesbury's hearty band of followers were then sent into hysterics with a late away goal. A quick ball in caught the home defence sleeping allowing sub Adam Cunnington to get beyond Duku. Walker could only parry his shot into the path of Taylor who prodded home his first goal for the club.
The Ducks had barely finished celebrating though before it had all gone wrong, the referee choosing to award a debatable penalty against Nick Leach. Adeniyi converted and saved his side's elimination from the FA Cup.
Still Aylesbury had a chance to win the match in normal time when Walker let a high ball slip out of his clutches, but he redeemed himself by making sure neither of the two green clad players could hack the ball over the line.
Full-time: Bromley 2-2 Aylesbury
Sadly United never really looked a threat in extra time ? their efforts over the 90 minutes probably a step too far as the Ducks simply ran out of steam.
Bromley took the lead eight minutes in when veteran Bobby Bowry scored from close range to round off an excellent passing move.
A flowing counter attack moments later could've added to the scoring, but Vincent made a good save to keep the home side at bay.
Craig Henney was thrown into the fray for the second half of extra time, but he couldn't force a third goal for Aylesbury. Instead, Bromley added a flattering fourth goal when Williams crashed the ball home late on.
