Sam Swonnel's suspension meant a first start for the impressive Jason Castello, who slotted in at right midfield and went on to be awarded man of the match.
The first half saw Rovers create the better openings, but they were guilty of wasting a number of chances ? ex-Luton man Tony Thorpe particularly culpable.
A free kick in the second minute had to be turned wide by Tom Vincent, then his opposite number Patching was called into action when Faulkner struck a vicious effort which was well tipped over.
Then, still inside the first five minutes, the ball dropped kindly to Thorpe on the edge of the area, but he placed his effort well over the bar. A great pass by Faulkner released Gallant at the other end whose shot was turned wide by Patching as the game's exciting start continued.
Both sides continued to have chances, and on sixteen minutes Liburd and Castello linked up down the right which resulted in the latter shooting wide, before another shot from Gallant was held by Patching after some neat build up.
Rovers had two great chances when first former Barnet star Frazer Toms slashed a shot well wide when unattended in the area. Then a fine counter attacking move from the visitors saw Sippetts spray the ball forward to Thorpe but he could only produce a weak finish that Vincent easily held.
On the half hour mark Faulkner cut in from the left and hit a low shot that Patching held. Faulkner went close again after a blocked effort from Taylor fell to him but his shot flew just outside the post.
Nine minutes before the break ex-Duck Maynard showed no composure in front of goal when he blazed over after a clearance broke to him, and Nathan Graham fired a shot into the side netting to round of a busy opening period.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-0 Barton
The second half was less eventful and although Barton seemed to be less of a threat, United were still struggling to break them down, especially with playmaker Swonnel missing.
Aylesbury were denied by a fine save from Patching ten minutes in. A free kick was flicked on by Faulkner into Kavanagh who went for goal but Barton's stopper was a match for his effort.
Barton's best chance of the second half came when Leon Hibbert picked out [10] with a searching pass and as Vincent advanced he attempted a lob but couldn't generate the power and Aylesbury's number 1 was able to pluck the ball out of the air.
Only the Ducks looked likely to find a winner in the last third of the game, and Barton at times were rather fortunate to escape the Meadow with a point.
A Faulkner shot hit a combination of keeper and the post with an hour gone, and then a minute later the ex-Wycombe man chested down to Graham who volleyed wide.
Rovers' biggest let off came when another powerful shot from Faulkner took a slight deflection to leave Patching nowhere, but agonisingly for Aylesbury it struck the inside of the post and fell straight into the bemused keeper's arms.
That was to be Faulkner's last action of the match as he was forced off injured to be replaced by Andy Shed, and Craig Henney also made an appearance for Castello late on as United at least showed intent for a late winner.
That was as close as either side came to a goal before the last fifteen minutes though, as the deteriorating conditions of driving rain and fog finally took their toll on the match and both sides had to trudge off with a point each.
