The match could have been a very different affair had Windsor not missed a second minute penalty, awarded after a foul by Stuart Maynard, but Matt Seedel's spot-kick came back off the foot of the post.

It had been a nervy start by United and Windsor were in control for the first twenty minutes, in a high tempo frenetic start to the game as neither side were being given any time on the ball.

United defended well throughout, all three centre-backs superb, and Nick Leach made an early block to deny a long-range effort from Ryan Parsons.

The game's direction changed on 19 minutes when Aylesbury took the lead with their first attack. A Vincent kick was flicked on by Mealor to Hawkins who fed Swonnell. His excellent raking pass picked out the advancing Stevens who drove a low cross into the area where Stuart Maynard arrived to sweep in his third goal of the season. 1-0 Aylesbury

Maynard had a chance to double his lead two minutes later, but struck a free kick straight at keeper Sam Mazurek from 20-yards.

Swonnell had the next effort, firing a low shot wide of the target after good work from Graham had set up the chance.

In general, Windsor had faded as the half went by, but a fizzing shot from Paul Coyne brought the best save of the match, Vincent spectacularly tipping the ball over.

What remained of the half belonged to the Ducks, and after Mazurek bizarrely decided to pick up a backpass from Andy Fagan Maynard fired the resulting indirect free-kick into the mass of bodies inside the area. Mazurek continued to protest his innocence, but perhaps a half-time revision of the rulebook was in order: the keeper clearly making the point that a ball coming off a player's knee didn't constitute a pass back.

The stopper was alert enough to keep out Hawkins before the break, who had been cleverly freed with a quickly taken restart, his fierce near-post effort beaten away.

Right on the half-time whistle Maynard's curling free-kick was met by the head of the same player, with the same result: Mazurek diving to claim well on the ground.

The quality of football in the first half wasn't great from either side, but after the break Aylesbury were able to play the ball around much more and a neat passing move ended with Maynard trying a shot from distance which flew wide of the post.

Windsor had a couple of chances either side of the hour mark, Joe Chandram snatching a shot wide of a vacant goal after Tom Vincent had come off his line to head clear.

Then came the visitors' best chance of the game, substitute Terry O'Connor burst forward at pace and crossed to Seedel who ran too wide and was unable to shoot. He laid the ball back to Jake Parsons who wasted the glorious opportunity by taking an awful first touch, before spooning a shot over.

That was the closest the Royalists were to come to equalising, and midway through the second period the Ducks doubled their lead. For the second time in two games the opposing goalkeeper was punished for dallying on the ball, Mazurek's clearance straight into the body of Hawkins, who retrieved the ball and rolled it into the empty net. 2-0 Aylesbury

That really was game over, with the result secured Aaron Flood came from the bench to make his Aylesbury bow.

A flurry of late bookings seemed like being the only remaining talking point, before two chances came in the last minute. Mark Jones struck a free-kick straight into the defensive wall, Crag Henney collecting the loose ball but only able to screw a half-volley wide of the target.

Then at the other end ex-Duck Steve Butler, pushed forward as an extra attacker in the final stages, connected with a low cross but his flicked effort was straight at Vincent.

Given Windsor's status as potential playoff challengers in their division, this was a surprisingly comfortable afternoon for the Ducks, after the early scare, and their reward is another home tie against Almondsbury Town.
