Aylesbury endured a miserable evening in Potters Bar, in every sense of the term, as they were dumped out of the competition in a match played through some abysmal weather conditions.

Both sides showed once change to their line-ups from the previous Saturday. For the Ducks Ryan Bernard returned in place of the unavailable Miles Mitchell-Coop, whilst the home side had Jonathan Spencer in for Guy Helman at full-back.

United had the game's early chances, Dean Thomas firing an effort wide on the turn and a Chris Dean free-kick spinning back off the wall.

As the teams found the going tough neither side could claim to have an upper hand, with the home side finding the wind a hindrance and seemingly carrying every ball they hit forward straight through to Jack Sillitoe.

Aylesbury were forced into an early substitution with Chris Reed forced off with an injury he suffered in the warm-up to be replaced by Troy Bantleman.

Both sides had wayward headed efforts midway through the half as Bernard got on the end of Dean's delivery but was way off target, then Ellis Remy continued where he'd left off in the first game with a woeful header which went well wide.

Remy was at it again nine minutes later when he found himself in acres of space from a deep free-kick delivery, but could only find the side netting with his far post header.

A rare moment of quality nearly produced an opener for Aylesbury. A throw-in found Montgomery who played a through-ball to Calvin Thomas and his low cross was fired wide by the arriving Ashleigh James.

Moments later another good chance went begging, Bantleman delivering a raking left-footed cross but it was the wrong man on the end of it in Matt Kimani who couldn't get his head on the ball.

The closing stages of the half belonged to Potters Bar though as they fashioned a string of chances. Remy flicked a header wide from a free-kick after a misdemeanour by Sillitoe outside his area.

Next Shane Wyllie brought the ball into the box before playing a nice little ball for Luke Croll who nearly broke the crossbar in two with a venomous strike.

The half was rounded off by Wyllie shooting well over on the turn, after an exciting end to an evenly matched first period.

The home side made a strong start after the break and could have been ahead immediately when the dangerous Harrison-Barker rode a number of challenges before seeing a shot beaten away at the near post by Sillitoe. Luckily for Aylesbury the follow-up effort was fired all the way across goal and wide.

The Scholars went close again as a well delivered corner was met with a header at the far post but the ball hit another Potters Bar player and the danger was eventually cleared.

Aylesbury introduced Daddy Moses, probably in the hope that he would make the most of the wind-aided balls forward, but he struggled to get into the game, just like Abdul Yoki who he replaced.

United's first meaningful chance of the second half came just past the hour mark. A ball in from Dean on the left was lost by Willis and met by Calvin Thomas but he couldn't make a telling connection, and it was bundled just wide of the upright.

The miss was to prove costly as a minute later Potters Bar had the lead. Questionable defending from Aylesbury's point of view allowed a low ball to travel 40-yards from out wide into the area, and Sillitoe was beaten by a well placed finish from Remy. 1-0 Potters Bar

Despite going a goal down, the Ducks were enjoying their best spell of the game and had a number of chances to equalise.

Calvin Thomas seized on a loose ball and played a low cross into the path of Kimani, but he had to shoot early and on his weaker foot and the ball flew over the crossbar.

Three minutes later Kimani was the man having a shot again, this time following up after a corner kick was scrambled away, but his effort hit a defender and went wide. The resulting corner kick was then swept off the line from a Bernard header.

Potters Bar defended strongly, and they increased their lead with a controversial counter-attacking goal. Daddy Moses nipped in onto another wind-assisted ball forward, only to appear to be hauled back by goalkeeper Willis.

Referee Mr Rea was having none of it, allowed play to continue, and the home side quickly worked the ball forward to Wyllie who went on an excellent mazy dribble before placing a finish past Sillitoe to finally extinguish any Aylesbury hopes. 2-0 Potters Bar

Aylesbury's confidence took a huge knock after the second goal, and as the rain continued to lash down would probably have been content to end the game there and then.

Moses went close a couple of times, a free-kick on the edge of the area shaved the upright, then Willis did well to save at his feet in a one-on-one.

As the minutes petered out there continued to be half chances for both sides, Croll twice went close for Potters Bar, whilst Bantleman blasted a free-kick over and Willis did well to get off his line quickly and deny Kimani ? landing awkwardly and twisting his knee in the process.

But all in all it was another disappointing evening for the Ducks, who now have a tough trip to Bromsgrove Rovers to quickly turn their attentions to.
