Played on a very hot day Aylesbury took the lead after only 20 seconds with Trina Freeman lobbing the Oxford keeper following an excellent through ball from Twinkle Dean. This set a record time for Aylesbury to score.
Further pressure resulted in Gemma Franklin having a shot well saved following a through ball from Sarah Flight and a second goal ensued after 5 minutes scored by Suzie Cole who shot low and hard past the keeper after good work by Mel Gilbert and Twinkle Dean.
Yet more efforts from Gemma Franklin, Leigh Reed and Suzie Cole all ended with saves from the Oxford keeper. However the pressure told with a third goal from Suzie Cole smashing the ball high into the net. Aylesbury therefore were leading 3-0 after just 17 minutes.
Oxford United seemed to come back into the game for a while. However excellent work by the defence, especially with Leanne Walker clearing off the line, held them at bay until the 41st minute when Oxford scored at the 3rd attempt following two excellent clearances by Mel Gilbert and Lucy Ilic.
The second half started with Aylesbury under severe pressure as Oxford looked to increase their score but excellent saves from Mel Gilbert kept them out particularly one from a vicious free kick.
The heat was beginning to tell on both sides but gradually Aylesbury came back into it with shots from both Sarah Gerrard and Sarah Flight nearly further increasing Aylesbury's lead.
It turned out to be Oxford who scored next from a great free kick which left the Aylesbury keeper with no chance. This put added pressure on the Aylesbury side with Oxford going all out for an equaliser. However the whole back four held firm with some excellent defensive play and Aylesbury ending up 3-2 winners.
This was a game of high standards against a good side but the whole of the Aylesbury defence must be given praise for their determination as was shown with Leanne Walker being awarded player of the match.
