It was another improved display from Tony Joyce's young side who more than matched Bury for a large chunk of the first half, but were just unable to make their dominance pay and turn pressure into goals.
By that time the Ducks were already a goal down however, after Ben Coker's left wing cross was headed in by Lee Reed just five minutes in after a customary disastrous start by Aylesbury. 1-0 Bury
It was Aylesbury who grew into the game more as the half went by though, and they had their first effort on goal when a throw-in released Montgomery into space but his left-footed shot was always going wide.
It was to be the midfielder's last telling contribution as he was injured soon after and replaced by Jamie O'Grady.
That was quickly followed by a wayward effort from Bury's Lee Reed, but the tactical rejig of pushing Ashleigh James into midfield, with O'Grady giving a good display down the right, meant Aylesbury were firmly in the ascendancy.
Bury were proving a tough nut to crack and on 25 minutes Harewood was only prevented from making contact with a fine Chris Dean cross by a great defensive header from Ashley Slots when he looked poised to score.
Five minutes later a telling corner kick caused a scramble in the area before the ball dropped to Harewood who found his shot blocked, the ball going behind for another corner.
The sustained pressure continued with Aylesbury forcing a number of corner kicks, the next one taken short to James who delivered for Joe Oxley who flicked his header just wide of the target.
For all of United's play, Bury still carried a big threat on the counter-attack and one such move ended with Lee Reed playing in Callum Kearns who turned sharply but could only fire a low shot wide across goal.
There was heartbreak for Aylesbury on the stroke of half-time as, instead of going in level as it could have been argued they deserved, they found themselves two down. A cross in from the left caused havoc in the area, and the ball eventually fell to Sam Reed who cracked a fierce effort home from a tight angle. 2-0 Bury
It should have been three at the break when Davey spurned a glorious chance for his side after a neat move which saw a crossfield ball played out to Lee Reed who fed the former King's Lynn striker, but he went for power and hammered the ball over the bar.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-3 Bury Town
Aylesbury never reached the same heights of their first half display, and the second period was more than comfortable for the visitors who were able to control proceedings.
The third arrived just before the hour mark, yet again deriving down Bury's left flank. Ben Coker's cross was inadvertently headed into his own net by Nick Bennion, which probably wasn't how he imagined his full debut for the club. 3-0 Bury
Coker himself went for goal with a long range free-kick three minutes later which flew wide of the target.
The Ducks then had a rare attempt on goal, as a result of their best attacking move of the game. O'Grady played the ball to Harewood who cleverly flicked it into the path of Kevin Ayodele, but his low drive was well saved by Marcus Garnham on his near post.
Bury had plenty of chances to add to their scoreline in the remainder of the match. On 64 minutes Sam Reed rounded Sillitoe before eventually playing the ball back to Davey, but he could only shoot over. Then, a quick corner caught United out and Lee Reed headed over from close range.
On 70 minutes the visitors added their fourth as Aylesbury's susceptibility from croses was exposed again, the ball delivered from the right picking out Sam Reed's whose run had gone untracked and he was able to easily slide the ball into the net. 4-0 Bury
United's final effort came in the last ten minutes when Ayodele brought the ball forward before playing in Tyrone Taylor, but he rounded off a disappointing night by dragging his shot wide.
It was mostly one-way traffic towards the end though, and Bury must have left wondering how they hadn't increased the score. Coker had a shot deflected wide, then from the resulting corner kick scramble the ball was cleared off the line.
And in the very last minute Michael Steward hit the post with only Sillitoe to beat and it ended 4-0 to Bury.
