Aylesbury's search for their first home points of the season goes on after they slipped to a narrow defeat at the hands of Bedworth United.
The Ducks lineup contained three players making their debuts and resulted in one of the best 45 minute periods for a while, but a lacklustre second half ultimately cost them the game.
The home side made the early running and on three minutes a telling ball in from Jamie O'Grady was just gathered in by Aston Villa loanee goalkeeper David Bevan ahead of Tyrone Taylor.
Three minutes later Taylor headed a Newby corner back across goal where the waiting James Nash could only produce a weak finish which was swept away by Sam Shilton, stationed on the goal line.
Aylesbury were showing plenty of positive intent, but their opponents regularly looked a threat on the counter-attack. On 13 minutes, such a threat turned into the first goal of the game as Bedworth scored with their first meaningful attack. Jason Moore played a low ball across the area, and Kevin Ayodele was the unfortunate man who could only turn it into his own net. 1-0 Bedworth
The Greenbacks then had chances to extend their lead through Kurtis Mewes who ran through and volleyed wide, and then on the end of another counter-attack only to be denied by a blinding double save by Jack Sillitoe.
On 27 minutes Aylesbury an equaliser which, on balance of play, they did deserve. Ayodele claimed the dubious honour of scoring at both ends when he made a good run from deep to get on the end of O'Grady's searching cross and head past Bevan. 1-1
It was a delicately poised match at this point, and both sides had opportunities to go into half-time with the lead.
Sillitoe did well coming off his line to smother the ball at feet, although it squirmed free and had to be hacked behind by Ayodele. The resulting corner was swept straight into the keeper's grateful arms.
At the other end one of the Ducks debutants Ben Clarke skipped past his man, taking the ball inside but only firing down the throat of Bevan.
Bedworth wasted a glorious chance to retake the lead on 35 minutes when another quick break resulted in Mewes cutting in from the left flank, but he could only loft his shot well over the crossbar.
Clarke made a decent break for Aylesbury, taking the ball all the way to the byline only to be tackled at the last by Gilbert Cummins who injured himself in the process and eventually made way for Tristan Kabango.
The visitors should have scored again five minutes from the interval when Shilton delivered another great ball into the box where Fazel Koriya was all on his own but headed tamely into Sillitoe's arms.

Unfortunately for Aylesbury, the second half was something of a non-event. Bedworth came out with some strong words from Liam O'Neill still ringing in their ears and were a much better side.
In just the first minute Jamie Lenton had a fierce effort in the area blocked, before Sam Shilton delivered another vicious whipped free-kick which had to be well defended by Aylesbury with the resulting corner requiring tipping over by Sillitoe.
On 58 minutes Taylor headed Newby's corner well over the bar when he should really have hit the target, but it was one of only two Aylesbury chances in the second period as attacks were few and far between.
Just past the hour mark Bedworth took the lead. Some poor defending allowed them to move the ball all the way across the area, before a player was brought down right on the edge of the box. The Greenbacks appealed in vain for a penalty, but it mattered not as Fazel Koriya stepped up and hammered home the free-kick. 2-1 Bedworth
Ten minutes later and it was curtains for the Ducks as they were reduced to ten-men. Sillitoe rushed from his line and dived in with a rash challenge outside the box for which he saw a straight red card, and, having turned 20 the day before, an unwanted birthday present.
Tyrone Taylor took up the gloves for the remainder of the match, but apart from a few catches he was relatively untested.
The free-kick for Sillitoe's foul was only turned wide at the near post, as the match drifted to a very subdued conclusion.
There was one last chance for Aylesbury when Ayodele got on the end of Newby's free-kick delivery but headed wide across goal.
It was a disappointing last twenty minutes to a match which had started with much promise for the Ducks, who also now have to contemplate the loss of their goalkeeper, who has been nothing short of superb recently, for three matches.
