It took just three minutes for Biggleswade to take the lead in this game, as Aylesbury lost 3-1 for the second time of the week and for the second time to the Waders this season.

From Aylesbury?s point of view, it was a case of ?more of the same?, as they showed plenty of spirit and endeavour but rarely had the cutting edge needed whilst at the same time got no luck in front of goal either as the ball simply refused to bounce their way.

United hit back with a couple of efforts by means of response, as Enzo Silvestri latched on to a sliced clearance by the goalkeeper and took the shot on the bounce but the ball sailed over the bar.

Five minutes later Dean Bull made a good save with his legs, as Pringle flicked a free-kick on for McCormick whose low shot it was.

Soon afterwards, Joyce himself tried an ambitious free-kick attempt from a tight angle, before deciding he wasn?t doing his team justice and substituted himself for Danny Nicholls with less than fifteen minutes gone.

The change meant that Aylesbury only had one recognised defender on the pitch in Robert Bartley, such are their injury problems with Rickelle Christian and Kevin Ayodele the latest additions following Wednesday?s game. Keith Newby dropped back into Joyce?s ?sweeper? role.

Freshwater had an effort from distance go well over before the visitors doubled their lead in the 25th minute, but it was another avoidable goal given away by the Ducks. Tyrone Taylor misplaced a cross-field pass which was quickly worked to Glen Lamacraft and his ball into the box was just out of reach of Bartley and came all the way to Donnelly at the far post who couldn?t miss. 2-0 Biggleswade

Even at 2-0 down Aylesbury were still very much in the game, and when put under pressure the visiting defence certainly looked vulnerable.

A flowing counter saw McCormick deliver a great fine cross to the far post where Nicholls arrived but Peter Gatti did a good job of covering and managed to get the ball behind for a corner kick.

McCormick was looking sharp up front and he worked his way into the box a minute later, played a 1-2 with Pringle before shooting just wide of the target.

The Waders then had a chance when a low cross was swept goalwards by Donnelly but he couldn?t direct the effort and it was straight at Sillitoe.

Aylesbury got the goal their play deserved fine minutes from the break. A Taylor long-throw was half cleared as far as Montgomery who unleashed a cracking volley from the edge of the box that left Bull no chance ? a fine way to score your first goal for the club. 1-2

The Ducks were well on top now and had chances to equalise before half-time when first Pringle met a Newby corner but headed straight at Bull from less than 5-yards out. Then, another flick from Pringle released McCormick for a one-on-one but he was deemed offside, although he had thumped his shot against the bar in any case.

Aylesbury continued their control of the game after the interval, but their possession wasn?t backed up by chances created and despite seeing plenty of the ball, they only had an early wayward volley from Danny Nicholls to show for their efforts.

It took a full twenty minutes for the next chance to materialise as the match turned into a battle for possession. Former United defender Liam Folds should have done better when heading a corner kick over at a corner when unattended.

Silvestri blazed a volley well over the bar, and Danny Nicholls could only produce a weak finish having been played through by Taylor, as United continued to have to live on scraps and as the time ticked by there was a sense of inevitability that it wasn?t going to happen for Aylesbury.

So it was proved, as in similar fashion to the defeat three days earlier, the visiting side went on to score a third goal to secure the win.

A corner kick was knocked across goal by Kilroy and with Aylesbury?s players having been drawn to the ball, substitute Bobby Dance was able to drill the ball into the net with consummate ease. 3-1 Biggleswade

United still weren?t done though, and Taylor called upon Bull to make a save after a misjudgement by Folds let him in for a fierce shot which was beaten away at the near post.

Kilroy then should have increased Biggleswade?s lead when he was presented a free-header six-yards out but could only place it over the bar.

Newby saw a free-kick deflect off the wall and wide, and Taylor smashed a shot high and wide of the target as it continued to be a frustrating afternoon for United in front of goal.

The match was rounded off by Bobby Dance who skipped past the challenges of two tiring Aylesbury players but could only shoot straight at Sillitoe, otherwise it would have been the highlight on a fairly average afternoon of football.

Biggleswade had been aided by two gifted goals, but Aylesbury were always in the game and had they had the required cutting edge or a bit more luck with the ball dropping in the box then could have got a result on another day.
