The win maintains the Ducks four point lead at the top of the table but the nail biting now starts as the teams below them have to play catch up and all have fixtures still to play.
Despite this uncertainty and being held up in roadworks United got off to a flying start as Sarah Gerrard and Suzie Cole combined twice in the opening twelve minutes to give their side an early 2-0 lead. Cole?s finishing on both occasions was sublime.
Beanie Cameron had a header sail just wide of the post before Cole was upended in the box and Laura Warmbier coolly slotted home the resultant penalty.
The diminutive Cole completed a first half hat trick five minutes later before Leanne Walker had to head off the line from a corner to maintain the Ducks clean sheet.
On the stroke of half time Leigh Reed knocked in Aylesbury?s fifth and the tie was effectively over.
The second period was slightly less frenetic with Kay Norton going close and Sarah Short having an effort harshly ruled out for an alleged push.
Norton then set up Suzie Cole for her fourth of the match and Lucy Ilic notched the team?s seventh with a thundering drive which completely wrong footed the keeper and ricochet in off the upright.
Sarah Flight hit the side netting before United?s final and most bizarre goal of the season. The hapless Newbury keeper collecting the ball and then when under no pressure inadvertently dropping the ball back over her own goal line!
A comedic ending to what has been a highly successful season for the Aylesbury Ladies in which the team have guaranteed at least third position and are hopeful that results elsewhere will lead to a deserved promotion.
