The Ducks put up a spirited performance though, and had looked set to hold onto a goalless first half until a penalty five minutes from the break, then a killer second just three minutes later, put an entirely different complexion on proceedings.
United welcomed back Lea Coulter to their defence after injury, and he lined up alongside Mark Toms, whilst Leon Gordon was back in the team and Warren Garcia also returned, in place of Carl Clay. Aylesbury also had Matt Timberlake as emergency cover in goal, and had it not been for his solid display then the scoring could have been extended even further.
As early as three minutes Timberlake was called upon to tip over a rising shot from Danny Dafter as the ball was played inside him. Some poor defending from United then let in another Brentwood player for a shot but Timberlake spread himself well to make the save.
Despite the early chances, Aylesbury had made a decent start and in the 9th minute had a good sight of goal when Edgeworth rose unmarked at a corner kick but his header was easily gathered by Andy Hall.
Ben Baines will feel he might have done better seconds later when he was played in, and having turned his man smartly could only find the hands of Hall when faced with the whole goal to aim at.
Unfortunately that was to be about as close as United came in the first period, as they were forced to work hard to contain their hosts.
Midway through the half Nick Muir blazed a free-kick well over the bar, then from a dangerous corner kick delivery Toms was on hand to clear a flicked header off the line.
Brentwood began to turn up the heat and forced a succession of corners without finding a way through, as the ball was again cleared off the line before Timberlake saved the follow-up effort by tipping it wide.
With United defending valiantly it looked like they were doing enough to go in on equal terms at the break, but rather shot themselves in the foot as Craig Townsend handled in the box for a 39th minute penalty which Ellis Remy sent Timberlake the wrong way from. 1-0 Brentwood
Remy was a man with previous form scored on the way to sending the Ducks out of the FA Cup when playing for Potters Bar the season before, and once again the rangy striker proved a handful throughout the match.
Things got worse for Aylesbury as Brentwood added a second just three minutes later. The goal stemmed from a United attack which broke down on the left wing with Justin Gordon, the home side countered with breathtaking pace before a cross came in from the right which was easily headed in at the far post by Dafter. 2-0 Brentwood
Remy could have added a third in stoppage time but fired well over as a routine long ball dropped to him on the edge of the box.
Half-time: Brentwood 2-0 Aylesbury
It looked like a long second half was in store for the Ducks, and they desperately needed an early goal if there was to be any chance of a comeback. They came close to grabbing one when Smith?s pinpoint delivery was agonisingly just too far ahead of the arriving Wood who couldn?t quite stretch enough to divert it into the net.
Blues hit back with a couple of efforts as Remy lobbed over the bar, and they had a goal disallowed for offside as a low free-kick was parried by Timberlake into the path of a waiting striker who had been positioned beyond the defence.
It continued to be a lively start to the second half, and a rare Aylesbury effort saw Baines flick a header well wide of the target from Smith?s free-kick.
Most of the chances continued to be at the other end though, with Timberlake being kept busy as he beat away Remy?s turn and shot, then managed to gather at the second attempt.
Justin Gordon then swept the ball off the line after the home side had passed their way through with a fine move before Remy?s effort was seen away by Gordon.
Aylesbury made a double substitution as they looked for better fortunes, with Jamie O?Grady returning to the fold, and Joey Acheampong also sent on.
Brentwood had a second goal disallowed on 73 minutes when, after a spell of penalty area pinball, the ball was turned in by substitute Dean Green but the referee had already spotted an infringement.
The long-coming third goal did finally arrive when another good passing move ended with Anthony Ryan being played through and he finished well past Timberlake. 3-0 Brentwood
Brentwood continued to look a threat and Timberlake made a good save on his near post to keep them at bay, before a fourth arrived two minutes from time when the home side once again passed their way around the Ducks before low cross was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Lea Coulter. 4-0 Brentwood
On reflection, this was just a bridge too far for Aylesbury and few could complain at the final score in a game that United had battled well, but ultimately been outclassed by a side from a league above them.
