All the pre-match hype had focussed on the return of Greg Williams, but whilst he wasn?t involved it was another new signing Lewis Christon who was left to take centre stage. The new centre-back quickly formed a solid partnership with John Mulholland which largely kept Hanwell?s 17-goal hitman Blaise O?Brien quiet and scored a debut goal to boot.
The visitors started brightly though and only a fine save from Sillitoe in the 3rd minute kept them from going ahead as Hussein Mohamed had time to pick his spot but Sillitoe tipped it away. The follow up effort from Michael Buckley was then curled wide.
Jack Wood had Aylesbury?s first chance as he was picked out having stayed up from the previous attack but he sliced his shot badly across goal.
A Hanwell cross flashed across the six-yard area five minutes later, although both incoming attackers were flagged offside, in what proved to be Town?s final meaningful pressure on the Aylesbury goal, as the superb Ducks upped their game and went on to control the first half.
Justin Gordon?s well delivered free-kick was headed over the bar by Coulter inside the box, before Ben Baines? showed great strength to win back the ball and release Acheampong who could only shoot wide as visiting keeper Kieran Jimmy did a good job of rushing off his line to narrow the angle.
Acheampong was having a lively game but wasn?t having the best time in front of goal as he next skied an overhead kick over the bar after Christon headed down Wood?s corner kick.
A flowing move soon afterwards saw Acheampong pass to Garcia who in turn played in a dangerous low cross which Baines got the faintest touch too arriving at the near post but couldn?t steer the ball in.
The Ducks could have been out of sight by this point as the one way traffic continued with Coulter the next man to see an effort blocked having been played in by Garcia.
An opening goal deservedly arrived on the half hour mark. Another excellent Wood corner kick was met by Acheampong and with Jimmy was unable to claim the ball, Christon was on hand to head the ball home. 1-0 Aylesbury
The pressure on Hanwell?s goal continued with an Edgeworth ball into the box cleared at the last moment with attackers closing in, and a couple more corners followed before Garcia fired in a shot which flew just past the top corner after Gordon?s ball into the box fell kindly for him.
Half-time: Aylesbury 1-0 Hanwell
Hanwell started the second period just as they had the first, and as O?Brien ran clean through most expected the net to bulge, but Sillitoe produced a magnificent low save to keep the ball out.
The second half was proving to be a stop-start affair, and Hanwell?s veteran former Aylesbury man Jason Tucker got a flurry of yellow cards underway when he was booked for dissent.
Proceedings were mirroring those of the first half, with Aylesbury firmly in charge as Townsend crashed a shot over from distance and a superb backwards header from Ben Baines dropped just wide from Edgeworth?s cross.
Interval substitute Carl Clay shot well wide after good link up with Townsend on the edge of the area, before he became the fourth player to be booked five minutes later for a bout of handbags with Joe Hatcher.
Town were still keen to prove they carried a goal threat, and it took an excellent last ditch challenge by Gordon to keep O?Brien out just as he was about to pull the trigger as the ball broke for him in the box.
Aylesbury got the decisive and once again deserved second goal in the 66th minute when another good move resulted in Coulter delivering the ball into the box from the left, where Garcia?s initial effort was beaten away with Townsend on hand to guide home the rebound. 2-0 Aylesbury
A minute later it was nearly three for United when Edgeworth?s raking pass picked out Coulter whose early half-volley dropped the wrong side of goal.
Townsend headed a Baines ball into the box wide, Clay?s cross was just missed by the arriving Edgeworth and Baines, and a quite brilliant turn and shot from Baines was saved by Jimmy as Aylesbury?s supremacy continued.
A moment of madness in the 80th gave Hanwell a lifeline when Mulholland was caught upfield allowing the visitors to counter quickly with O?Brien taking the ball around the stranded Sillitoe before squaring for veteran forward Davis Haule to tap into the unguarded net. 1-2
Previously United might have crumbled as memories of the recent capitulation against Leverstock Green came flooding back, but instead of dropping deep this time Aylesbury continued to push forward.
Hanwell did have another effort from Charley Baverstock but it was comfortably fielded by Sillitoe down low.
It was Aylesbury who looked more likely to add to the scoring as Emefuna drove straight at the keeper. Try as he might, Edgeworth just cannot add to his tally at the moment, as he headed Garcia?s pinpoint cross over and then slid in onto Emefuna?s ball across the box only to balloon it way over the bar.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time Coulter capped his own performance and that of his team?s with a magical third goal. A fine passing move eventually ended with a slick one-two between Edgeworth and Coulter with the latter producing an excellent finish just inside the post. 3-1 Aylesbury
It was rich reward for an excellent all round display by the Ducks who will now be hoping they can take their form forwards and progress past Hertford Town in the FA Vase.
