New signing, former MK Dons youngster David King, was drafted into the team and for a while appeared to be running the match with his intelligent passes cutting the visitors apart and it was he who created the 11th minute opener for Ben Baines.
King’s raking ball forward was fabulous and put Baines in behind the defence, the Ducks’ number nine having to wait an eternity for the ball to drop before firing past Scott Walters from 10-yards. 1-0 Aylesbury
It had been a bizarre start to the match which had seen Langford hampered by a lack of available players, as they kicked off with only ten men on the field before Paul Donald joined the party with seven minutes played.
Aylesbury were quickly on top though with Coulter unusually firing off target having been played through, although there was a scare when a miss-hit cross from Theo Swain bounced off the top of crossbar.
But Baines’ opener settled any nerves as United went looking for a second. Another brilliant pass from King set Garcia away, his cross being swept behind.
Luke Nicholl nearly powered the ball into his own net from a customary dangerous Daniel Jones corner on the quarter hour mark, with King then nearly able to scramble home the second delivery, but the visitors were clinging on with Mulholland nodding a Jones free-kick wide soon afterwards.
A sloppy moment from Aylesbury allowed Langford a rare shot at goal in the 20th minute as the Ducks presented the ball straight back to Ryan Nicholl who drilled a shot narrowly over Sillitoe’s bar.
There was another warning that United needed to keep their concentration when one ball forward set Luke Sharples away having peeled off his marker, but he slashed his effort badly wide of the target.
Normal service was soon resumed and some sublime football saw King, Coulter and Jones all link up to good effect with the end product being Coulter heading Jones’ telling cross over the bar.
It seemed only a matter of time before the scoreline was troubled again, with Townsend shooting wide inside the area and Walters making a brilliant low save to deny Baines after Wood’s cross picked him out.
Another screaming Townsend effort flew wide of the target, before Coulter – having an unusually off day in front of goal – also missed the target having with a rasping effort been set away by his strike partner’s excellent flick.
Aylesbury finally grabbed their deserved second four minutes from the interval when Baines slipped the ball inside to the on running Garcia who produced a clinical finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area. 2-0 Aylesbury
There was still time for another great passing move to be ended with a volley wide by Townsend before the half was out, and Walters was tested by his own man when Michael Leon headed goalwards requiring a save from the visiting keeper.
Half-time: Aylesbury 2-0 Langford
With the points safely in the bag amidst no apparent threat of a comeback from the Reds, Aylesbury were content to stroll their way through most of the second half, although they started the second period strongly in search of more goals.
An ambitious effort from Hateley Mercer drifted tamely wide, before Jack Wood had a shot cleared off the line after Walters went AWOL.
The same player, who seemed to be a bit lost on the right wing, then horribly miscued having been found by Coulter’s well placed pass.
The visitors struck a shot from range on the hour mark when Swain collected the ball in space, but his effort was well off target.
Aylesbury were playing some excellent football at times and really deserved a third goal, but they were continually denied by a combination of poor finishing and the good goalkeeping of Walters.
Townsend broke to the near post to head over Jones’ corner kick, before driven Jones effort required the best save of the match as a flying Walters tipped the ball around the post.
Baines fired in a rocket of a left footed shot as another good move saw Garcia head down to him after a number of passes in the build up.
United introduced Joey Acheampong to the fray after 70 minutes and he nearly made an immediate impact as he flung himself at Coulter’s ball into the box only to see his header go narrowly wide.
As the game wound down, so did Aylesbury with it, as they began to take their foot of the gas.
It resulted in a couple of dangerous moments from Langford, the best of which saw Sillitoe called into his first meaningful action of the match when Swain turned sharply and fired in an effort which Sillitoe had to gather in on his near post.
That was as good as it got though, and apart from a wayward Coulter effort and a Baines shot on the turn which went straight at Walters, the last ten minutes passed with little action as Aylesbury left satisfied with another – on this occasion very comfortable – three points.
