Aylesbury fielded the same starting eleven as for the previous week’s victory over Chinnor with veteran midfielder Beanie Cameron making her 100th appearance for the club, only the sixth player to do so
Not surprisingly, given the searing temperatures, the match started slowly and despite early Aylesbury pressure it was the visitors who struck first with a goal on seven minutes
Centre back Kerry Naisbitt appeared to be fouled on the edge of her own area but the referee allowed play to continue and Carterton scored from close range at the far post
Rachel Saunders almost had United back in the game minutes later but her long range effort went wide
An injury to Naisbitt forced the Ducks to change their line up midway through the half but the new look defensive line held firm for the remainder of the half and keeper Twinkle Dean had relatively little to do
United made several changes at the break and attacked with more intent in the second period
Player of the match Kayleigh Johnston, in probably her best performance in a green shirt, was a thorn in the Carterton defence’s side all afternoon and nearly forced an equaliser when her marker almost put through her own goal with a last minute punt away
Shortly afterwards a melee in the goalmouth looked as if it must give rise to the elusive leveller but another desperate clearance saved the Oxfordshire side once again
The deserved Aylesbury goal finally came on 72 minutes when Suzie Cole’s corner was not cleared and her younger sister Sarah hooked the ball in to the delight and relief of the United contingent
The Ducks had the better of the closing stages but could not find a second goal but on balance this was another well earned and deserved point which keeps the Ladies at the right end of the table
