In glorious sunshine once again Aylesbury started very strongly and went ahead after four minutes. Tara Woodward laid the ball on for Nicola Hunt who slid the ball under the advancing keeper. Hunt had only resigned for the club in the week after a five year sabbatical at Chinnor and looked as sharp in front of goal as she did during her first spell when she averaged better than a goal a game.
Twelve minutes later she was at it again as Jen Lambie’s high looping ball caused havoc in the visitor’s defence and Hunt made no mistake to double her side’s lead
Holly Glover went close for United before Leighton then had their best spell of the game, having a goal ruled out for offside before pulling one back on 22 minutes. Keeper Beanie Cameron did very well to block the first effort but was powerless to prevent the follow up.
Worse was to come as buoyed by this goal the Bedfordshire side then levelled on 36 minutes
Parity didn’t last long though as the Ducks retook the lead two minutes later when Woodward’s corner was headed home at the far post by stand in captain Leigh Reed
It was a different story after the break as Aylesbury took complete control.
Laura Warmbier set up Kayleigh Johnston to ghost round two defenders and score five minutes into the half and five minutes later Woodward again found Reed, and the veteran midfielder finished with aplomb
Warmbier then had a fierce shot saved before Tara Woodward helped herself to a fifteen minute hat-trick (65, 75 & 78 mins)
The scoring was completed five minutes from time when Jen Smith set up Hunt. The striker’s shot was well save but Jo Rogers was on hand to poke the ball home
Rogers had another effort ruled out for offside in injury time by which time the visitor’s were mightily relieved when the referee finally blew his whistle to end the game
A comprehensive victory and a particularly good second half performance as the Ducks continue to build for the campaign ahead. Next week they travel to face old rivals Chinnor in their last pre-season match
