The Ladies Reserve side recorded their first victory of the season with a hard fought performance against fellow league newcomers Summertown Stars
The United side is still in it’s infancy itself and therefore naturally lacks some consistency and cohesion but at times on Sunday they played some good football and were value for their win
A number of late call ups to the first team forced a reshuffle in the starting line up but the front pairing of Charlotte Knight and Shannon MacLeod were on the same wavelength immediately as the former shot just wide early on
Jess Foster then gave Knight another opportunity which was well saved by the visiting keeper
United’s own shot stopper for the afternoon Kerry Naisbitt was called into action on the quarter hour mark, saving well low to her left
Lianne Turner then set up MacLeod whose shot was saved before the Aylesbury striker finally scored her first for the club on seventeen minutes when played into space by the impressive Harriet Long
The Oxford based side almost hit back immediately but shot over the crossbar and United ultimately made them pay for that doubling their lead just on the half hour
Zoe Brown coolly controlled and picked out Charlotte Knight who placed an inch perfect shot into the far corner of the net
MacLeod almost added a third before the break after ghosting around two defenders, but her shot went just the wrong side of the upright
After the break Knight and MacLeod continued to be thwarted by the keeper and Zoe Brown’s long range effort flew just over before the game saw a lull in proceedings
The hot weather didn’t help the teams but United did rally for a late surge and deservedly scored a third on 85 minutes when Player of the Match Anna Thompson picked out Shannon MacLeod and the young striker made no mistake rifling her shot into the top corner to seal the points for her side
A competent display from the Ducks which showed a continuing improvement at the start of their inaugural campaign.
