United Ladies got their league campaign back on track with a dogged if not classic performance against newly promoted Barton Rovers
In horrendous driving rain the Ducks fell behind early on when indecision in the area allowed the visiting striker an opportunity to break the deadlock on six minutes
Aylesbury probably had the majority of the possession for the next ten minutes but a lengthy stoppage in play due to an injury to a Barton player disrupted the flow of the game
It was the home side that struck next however when a clumsy challenge, which looked suspiciously inside the area, was penalised with a free kick on the edge of the penalty area
Recent recruit Emily Wells stepped up and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner to level the scores and notch her first for the club
Aylesbury were almost ahead seconds later when a fizzing cross was almost turned into the net by a defender and despite pressing forward for the remainder of the half the elusive second goal would not come
After the break it was much the same with United in the ascendancy and their visitors restricted to trying to catch them on the break
The Berkshire side’s stubborn resistance was finally broken on 62 minutes when Katie Squire found Rachel Saunders in space and her effort was eventually turned over the line by Leigh Reed
Wells, Squire and Tara Woodward all had good chances saved and Rachel Saunders saw an effort fly agonisingly just the wrong side of the upright before United gained a deserved two goal cushion when impressive youngsters Tara Woodward and Katie Squire combined for the latter to fire home and record her first senior goal
Overall a hard fought victory in difficult conditions for players and supporters alike which moves the Ducks back towards the right end of the league table.
