It was United that were battling with the wind in the first half, struggling to clear their lines at times leading to a great deal of pressure. However, it was the away team that took the lead in the 18th minute as a ball over the top by Emily Wells held up in the wind allowing Tara Woodward to slot it past the keeper with the outside of her right foot.
The lead only lasted for 5 minutes however as a free kick from almost 25 yards went straight in aided by the conditions and just 3 minutes later it was 2-1 to the home team as the Maidenhead striker picked up a through ball and slotted it past the Aylesbury keeper.
The Ducks came back strongly, however, and in the 28th minute Woodward picked out Katie Squire who shot across the keeper who managed to get just enough on it to keep it out.
Soon afterwards Zoe Killinger came on to replace Hannah Elliot who was struggling with an injury for her United debut. She was soon in the action playing a lovely ball to Squire who played it on to Woodward who was one-on-one with the keeper who again made an excellent save.
Although Maidenhead forced a good save from 'Beanie' Cameron in the Aylesbury goal following a corner it wasn't long before the equaliser came. A pass down the wing by Raq Saunders fed Tara Woodward who showed great strength to get the ball inside to Katie Squire who beat the last defender and slotted it past the keeper to make it 2-2.
Just 3 minutes before half-time, however, it was the Berkshire who regained the lead as their striker was left unmarked on the right and had an easy finish to make it 3-2 to the home team at the break
The excitement continued into the second half. Aylesbury were hoping to make the wind advantage count but it was the home team that extended their lead as they broke from an Aylesbury corner, went straight up the other end and put it past the keeper to make it 4-2.
Aylesbury continued to push hard with Wells creating numerous chances but they were again undone by a ball played through the defence and the home striker outpaced the defence and made no mistake.
United didn't give up though and within 6 minutes had reduced the deficit. Leigh Reed passed down the line to Saunders who crossed for an unmarked Wells to make it 5-3. The robust central midfielder then made it 5-4 as she shot past the keeper following a cross by Woodward
Unfortunately despite much pressure it was the home side which secured victory with a late lob over Cameron to make a final score line of 6-4
Frustrating, but in the end it came down to the fact that Maidenhead coped better with the very strong wind and deserved the victory.
