Though the score was slightly harsh on the Ducks, once again the hosts lacked the cutting edge in the final third to take advantage of a number of promising openings and equalise, prior to Ware’s quickfire double.
With Alex Tokarczyk having departed for Falkirk, Dan Green was restored in goal whilst Eoin Casey was fit again to play and was in the starting lineup alongside the also recovered Sonny French, making his first start since August.
United started well and some good football in the second minute ended with Shane Wood’s being slid behind for a corner kick. Sadly, it proved a false dawn and it was brother Jack who was the unfortunate man conceding an own goal just three minutes afterwards when a deep delivery ricocheted into the net off him. 1-0 Ware
The opening quarter of the game was lacking in excitement, but as Ware looked to step up their leading goalscorer Kieran Bishop twice threatened when he first shot straight at Green and then saw a shot blocked having got the better of Greg Williams.
Three minutes later and the ball sat up nicely for lively winger Rod Young who hit a well executed half volley, but off target.
Up to that point and Aylesbury had only threatened through Bewley’s tame free kick, and although French was well wide with one shot as the ball fell to him, he was closer when Stacey Field’s square pass saw him have a shot deflected just wide.
The Ducks were inches away from levelling with the resulting corner kick as Owens’s delivery was met on the volley by Jack Wood, the skipper unlucky to see his effort come back off the upright.
Just past the half hour mark Green made a good save to block Bishop’s fierce shot and then hold the follow up from Corey Davidson, which then lead straight to a promising move for Aylesbury with the ball played up to French who in turn found Casey just inside the box but his effort was straight at goalkeeper Glenn Williamson.
Field’s curling shot and another Casey attempt weren’t enough to test Williamson in the closing stages of the first period, but the Ducks were very much still in the game as the half time whistle sounded.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Ware
That shot was to be the last action for an out of sorts Field who was replaced by Taylor Collins at the break.
It was the visitors who were on the attack first when Joshua Oyibo bent a shot wide after the home defence gave the ball straight back to him having blocked an initial effort from Khale Dacosta.
At the other end and an almighty scramble nearly brought about an equaliser, Williamson losing the ball to French on the edge of the area but just doing enough to momentarily nick it away from him and the Ducks midfielder was just unable to smuggle it into the empty net.
The match continued to be an open affair and after a half-hearted penalty appeal from Bewley, Young was afforded space to cut inside and shoot straight at Green at the other end.
Casey should have done better when Osborne’s miss-hit shot fell his way in the box but with a woeful first touch the chance was gone.
Aylesbury’s best chance of the game fell to Shaun Owens midway through the half. Casey flicked on a long kick downfield and when Ben Crilley slipped Owens was given a clear sight of goal, only for Williamson to make his only meaningful save of the game and turn the ball wide.
Two minutes later and his opposite number Green was also being kept busy when Murat Karagul’s searching cross was met with a full blooded shot from Bishop at the far post, but Green stood tall to save.
Paul Edgeworth entered the fray in the 72nd minute and with his first touch was hooking an effort over the bar, but within seconds the game was put out of his, and Aylesbury’s, reach. A fabulous cross from the left wing cross was met with a towering leap by Young who guided the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season. 2-0 Ware
Two then quickly became three as Oyibo broke down the right before cutting the ball back for Bishop to ram home. 3-0 Ware
Just before that Collins had gone close with a superb 35-yard free kick that grazed the outside of the post with Williamson scrambling, and as the game drew to a close fellow substitute Ash Farmer also put a free kick over the bar.
With the game fizzling out there was still time for late drama, with Murat Karagul shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident, whilst Farmer had a penalty appeal turned down having weaved his way into the box.
It just wasn’t to be once again for the Ducks and with the news of Leighton Town and Petersfield Town both winning the move into the bottom two was confirmed.
