New signing Jonny Miller made his debut at right back against his former club, in one of four changes with fit-again Ollie Hogg restored to a lineup that once again featured a changed front three as Josh Baines and Bruno Brito were drafted back in.
After a dominant opening by the visitors, it came as little surprise when Hanwell opened the scoring after ten minutes. With their fifth corner kick the ball fell to Tyler Christian-Law on the edge of the box, who arrowed an accurate finish into the bottom corner past Zaki Oualah. 1-0 Hanwell
Aylesbury looked for an instant response, and were only denied an equaliser two minutes later by a fine save from Melvin Minter. The Hanwell stopper got up to tip the ball wide after a smart turn and shot from Brito was heading for the top corner.
The Ducks then forced two corners of their own, but that nearly proved to their undoing as from the second Town countered, the ball fed through to Courtney Austin who sprinted clear of the defence but whose lousy finish wasn’t enough to beat a tall-standing Oualah in the one-on-one.
A first decent spell of passing from United then gave Hogg the chance to curl a shot goalwards which was comfortably held by Minter.
It was Hanwell who next to go close midway through the half when Austin received a throw in and took the ball around Jack Wood before finding strike partner Christian-Law who could only shoot weakly at Oualah.
They had another great chance on 32 minutes when a corner kick delivery from Joe Chandiram had players queuing up to score, only for Oualah to save with his legs and keep the ball out.
With their best move of the match Aylesbury then did manage to open up the Town defence with Brito finding Vijon Sentain who in turn found the overlapping Ollie Stanbridge whose shot was blocked by a fine recovery challenge. From the resulting corner Kinnane headed over.
Despite this, and a continued improvement as the half drew to a close that also saw Hogg clip the crossbar with a stoppage time free kick, it took a desperate recovery from Wood to prevent Hanwell doubling the scoring.
Oualah had done well in standing tall to beat away a fierce shot, with the ball rebounding to Zak Joseph who sent an effort spinning goalwards only for Woods’ intervention clearing the danger.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Hanwell
Despite all the Hanwell chances, the Ducks had made it to half time with only the solitary goal separating the sides, and were looking for a better second half performance.
Unfortunately, two goals in the space of a minute put to any Aylesbury hopes of a comeback, as they pressed the self destruct button with in calamitous style.
Firstly, yet another Hanwell corner looked to have been dealt with, but some terrible defending allowed the ball to be headed around the area where Mark Jamison popped up unchallenged to head the ball into the net. 2-0 Hanwell
With United still reeling, two quickly became three when the ball was intercepted and moved quickly to Joseph who marked his debut with a low, skidding shot that beat Oualah and nestled just inside the post in the bottom left corner. 3-0 Hanwell
Aylesbury then nearly made it a hat-trick of gift wrapped goals when Oualah’s misplaced kick from his hands went straight to Chandiram. He played in Austin whose lob beat the goalkeeper but came back off the crossbar.
A double substitution saw Taylor Collins and Chid Onokwai replace Josh Baines and Vijon Sentain in attack, but it failed to invigorate the shell-shocked Ducks, and Hanwell tested again through Joseph with a shot from 25-yards that was held by Oualah.
On 65 minutes Aylesbury finally mustered an effort at goal, albeit a flighted shot from wide on the right flank which was placed well over by Brito.
They did better six minutes afterwards when Hogg’s corner was worked by Wood to Sonny French whose low shot at least required a save from Minter.
Town still had further opportunities to extend their scoring as Christian-Law teed up Austin for a strike that was gathered in by Oualah at the second time of asking, whilst Chandiram went close with a bending free kick that he put just past the far post.
Onokwai had little to show for his efforts since coming on, but he drew another save from Minter nine minutes from the end when he brought down Jake Bewley’s cross and went for goal.
United’s afternoon was then summed up when Hogg’s flag kick came all the way across to Brito who picked out the unmarked Wood when he sent the ball back across goal, but the Ducks’ skipper couldn’t get a shot away when free in front of goal.
The remaining minutes petered out to a close with no further goalmouth action as a disappointing home performance from Aylesbury came to an end.
