Following victory over Wantage after a penalty shootout in the first round of the Southern League Challenge Cup, Aylesbury United travelled to Kidlington for this second round tie, hoping for a more straightforward victory. The starting eleven saw manager Glyn Creaser choose to rotate his squad, with Jordon Frederick, Taylor Collins, Reece Cameron and Troy Witter (making his Ducks debut) replacing Olly Stanbridge, Bruno Brito, Vijon Sentain and Josh Baines, who all took their place on the substitutes bench.

It was the Ducks who made the running early on; in the very first minute, Collins was fouled just outside the penalty area, however, his free kick from 20 yards was wide of the keeper's left hand post. The first Kidlington attack saw full back Jack Quainton pass down the right to Jack Dunmall, who cut inside Jack Wood but could only fire his shot straight at Zaki Oualah. Four minutes later and the Ducks took the lead; Neat interpassing in midfield between Ollie Hogg and Jake Bewley saw the ball laid into the path of Reece Cameron, whose fierce shot from 25 yards swerved away from keeper Tetek and into the net. Straight from the kick off, the home side came close to equalising. The lively Lewis Coyle made good ground down the right flank and cut inside Sonny French, however, his goal bound shot from 20 yards rebounded off Jack Wood and out for a corner, which was well defended. Coyle again was the threat on 20 minutes. After a foul on the winger by Jake Bewley, he delivered a free kick onto the head of home skipper Tom Franklin, but header flashed narrowly wide of the target. Five minutes later, another foul, this time by Jordon Frederick saw Dunmall shoot at goal, his shot taking a slight deflection off the wall and clipping the bar, with Oualah rooted to the spot. Sonny French was the next to try his luck from distance, as Cameron fed the ball to him 35 yards out, but Tetek parried the ball to safety. The home side equalised on 34 minutes. Coyle again causing problems for the Duck's defence, his mazy run halted by a Bewley foul just inside the penalty area. Coyle himself stepped up and safely converted the spot kick. The home side started the second half on the front foot. Coyle again the threat as he picked up the ball, beat 2 tackles and fired at goal, only to see a deflection from Ryan Kinnane take the ball out for a corner. Fortuitously for the Ducks, that was to be Coyle's last contribution, as he limped off to be replaced by youth team graduate Callum Harvey. The best move of the match saw Taylor Collins find Bewley down the left, whose early cross found Troy Witter 10 yards out; under pressure from Franklin he could only direct his header wide of the near post. Witter had another opportunity soon after, a through ball from Frederick saw him advance on goal, only to see his shot blocked by a defender. On 75 minutes, a good move involving Harvey and Dunmall saw the ball find its way to youngster Josh Tooke, but he snatched at his shot and saw it clear the crossbar.

With time running out, and thoughts turning to the possibility of a second penalty shoot-out in supporter's minds, Taylor Collins and Ollie Hogg combined, with Collins drilling a left foot shot across Tetek to score his first goal of the season and give the Ducks the lead for the second time in the match. As the game entered added on time, Tommy Castle had a great chance to equalise. Firstly, his cross to Dunmall saw his strike partner's attempt on goal cleared for a corner. From the resulting corner, Castle headed on target, only to see Oualah save the ball on his goal line. Two minutes later, Castle again got free down the left and crossed to Dunmall, who turned sharply and shot, only to see Oualah down well at his near post to save. That was to be the last action of the match, a hard fought victory which sees the Ducks continue their great run of results away from home and through to the last 16 of the competition. Next up is a trip to Ashford Town (Middlesex) on Saturday, who currently sit 3 points and 3 places above the Ducks in the League table.
