Tre Mitford fired home a second half leveller for the Ducks as they were held to a 1-1 draw in tough conditions. Ben Williams made a few changes to try and gain some points ahead of the game using three at the back to bolster the midfield.
The wind played a huge part at a blustery Creasey Park, both sides struggled in the opening stages to really create any chances due to the conditions affecting the flight of the ball. However, the Ducks did have the first real chance of the game. After ten minutes, Tre Mitford drove towards the Dunstable back line before unleashing a shot that flashed wide of the post.
It took 20 minutes for the hosts to muster up an effort. Ryan Frater lofted a free kick towards Bernard Christie who set the ball towards Leon Cashman on the volley but, his attempt flew over the bar.
The Ducks then began to use the wind to their advantage and after 24 minutes should’ve taken the lead. Callum Mapley smashed the ball over the top of the Dunstable defence, Mitford ran onto the end of it, rounded the goalkeeper but could only place it into the side netting from a tight angle.
The conditions made it tough for all involved on the pitch as the wind was blowing every attempt into nothing. The Ducks did however come close on 37 minutes, Jake Bewley whipped a free kick in from the right-hand side but, it missed everyone and curled only just wide of the post.
5 minutes later, the Ducks went close again, Aylesbury managed to get the ball moving on the floor and Aaron Berry played Ben Seaton beyond the Dunstable lines, but he could only fire into Dan Green’s arms. The two sides went into the break all square at 0-0.
Half-time: AFC Dunstable 0-0 Aylesbury
The second half began the same as the first. The conditions still playing their part, but it was Dunstable that had the first attempt. On 49 minutes, Martel Powell cut inside from the right and set the ball off for Christian Tavernier who rolled the ball just wide.
The hosts took use of the wind and were able to get on top. On 51 minutes the ball broke towards Christie, he took a touch and then fired a rocket of a shot into the top corner from 20 yards. 1-0 AFC Dunstable
It took over ten minutes for the next attempt, and that one turned out to be crucial for the Ducks. On 63 minutes, The Ducks got the ball down and combined nicely, Harry Jones found Berry, who fed the ball to Seaton, he then squared the ball for Mitford to fire into the back of the net. 1-1
With 20 to play the Ducks kept pushing, Mitford drove towards the Dunstable defence before feeding Berry in behind. His first effort was blocked but volleyed over at the second try.
Archie Davis kept the Ducks in it after 81 minutes, Christie again found his way in behind the Ducks, but Davis was out quick to make a wonderful stop before holding onto the second ball.
In the dying embers of the game, Berry drifted down the left-hand side with the ball and attempted to loft the ball over the keeper but could only direct it wide of the post. A hard-fought win on the road for the Ducks in tough conditions. Next up, The Ducks host Bedford Town at the Meadow.
