After taking their unbeaten start in the BetVictor Southern League Division 1 Central to 2 games with a 2-0 away win over Wantage Town in midweek, Aylesbury United made it safely through to the 1st Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 3-1 away win over Hellenic League Premier Division side Brimscombe and Thrupp at a sunny and very warm The Meadow, Brimscombe on Saturday.

The Ducks' win at Wantage and results elsewhere during the week had left Ben Williams' side in 8th place in the table as the 3rd of 3 teams level on 4 points in the fledgling league table after 2 rounds of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Brimscombe and Thrupp went into the game on the back of a 0-1 home league defeat by Fairford Town in midweek to leave them in 18th place out of 19 in the table, level on points with bottom side Burnham but ahead on goal difference.

The first chance of note came Aylesbury's way in the 6th minute when Jake Bewley's throw in from the left found Ken Feyi who took a touch before passing low to his right to Ollie Hogg, who took a touch and slid through into the box before slipping it through to Sonny French. However, French was unable to make contact and the ball ran through to Brimscombe keeper Ashley Gale at his left hand post.

Another chance came United's way just into the 9th minute when Bewley's left foot free kick from the halfway line on the left dropped not too far over the bar.

Brimscombe suffered a blow when right back Ben Deakin went off injured and was replaced by Elijah Simpson in the 16th minute.

Then just before the midway point in the half with the temperatures at near boiling point, Swindon referee Sam Read sensibly called a temporary drinks break so the players could take water on board.

The Ducks continued to have the better of the play and they went close in the 28th minute when Bewley's low short corner from the right to the near post found Harry Jones, whose first time backward lay-off found French who slightly mis-hit his right foot shot. The ball ran to Jack Wood whose flicked right foot shot from 9 yards was straight at Gale.

The visitors went close again in the 31st minute when Wood's low forward ball found Feyi who took a touch before laying it back to Hogg, who fired his first time right foot shot from 35 yards over Gale's left hand angle.

United were forced into making their first change in the 35th minute when Jones was replaced by Ben Seaton.

The last chance of the half came United's way deep into the 2nd minute of added time at the end of the half when Bewley's low short ball found French on the left who took a touch infield before passing infield to Hogg, whose first time right foot shot from 25 yards was well beaten out at his right hand post by Gale who held the ball at the second attempt.

Half-time: Brimscombe & Thrupp 0-0 Aylesbury

The hosts might not have had a chance worthy of the name in the first half but they got the second half off to a dramatic start by taking the lead after just 96 seconds. Ollie Pitt's long ball over the top on the right found Ed Major who outpaced Bewley and beat Wood on his way into the right of the box before having his low right foot shot from 10 yards parried into his top right hand corner by Ducks keeper Jack Hopwood. However, it was Major's goal and a wake up call to Ben Williams' side if they were to avoid being on the wrong end of a potential cup shock in the Cotswolds. 1-0 Brimscombe

The Ducks rallied and they went close in the 51st minute when Hogg's free kick from the left to the far post found Dave O'Connor who sent his header from 4 yards wide of Gale's left hand post.

The visitors went close again in the 53rd minute when Hogg's low diagonal ball forward found Wood on the left who took a touch before crossing to the far post, where French fired his first time right foot shot from 18 yards over the bar.

United made their second change in the 54th minute when Lewis Osborne came on to replace Melvy N'Somni.

Then at the other end in the 56th minute, Major's corner from the right to the far post found James Campbell, whose first time left foot shot from 15 yards was touched in with his right foot from 6 yards by Jonty Welch. Brimscombe thought they'd scored but the offside flag was raised against Welch and the goal was disallowed, much I'm sure to Aylesbury's relief.

Then in the 60th minute, it was 1-1 when Hogg picked up a loose ball on the left 10 yards infield from the touchline and 35 yards out, ran infield and played a one-two with Feyi before taking the return pass outside the left hand corner of the D and firing his low left foot shot from 12 yards into Gale's left hand corner to the delight and (it has to be said relief) of the noisy travelling contingent. 1-1

The Ducks went close just into the 63rd minute when O'Connor's great long diagonal ball from right to left found Bewley who took a touch and drove forward before firing his left foot shot from 25 yards agonisingly just over the bar.

Another chance came the visitors' way just before the end of the 64th minute when French turned outside the left front of the box before firing his low right foot shot from 20 yards wide of Gale's right hand post.

United went close again in the 66th minute when Seaton's ball infield from the left into the box found Osborne who showed good close control and turned before having his left foot shot from 12 yards blocked by Chris Pates which took the sting out of it. The ball ran to Feyi but Brimscombe defender Kyle Pitts got a tackle in to end the danger.

Then in the 68th minute, referee Read sensibly called for a drinks break due to the boiling hot conditions, during which Brimscombe made their second change in the 68th minute with Tom Pass coming on to replace Ashley Caldwell.

United went close in the 70th minute when French fed Feyi on the left of middle, who showed some good footwork before sending his right foot shot from 20 yards past Gale's left hand angle.

A chance came Brimscombe's way in the 74th minute when Pass' low ball infield from the right found Major who took a touch before firing his swerving left foot shot from 25 yards well wide of Ducks keeper Jack Hopwood's right hand post.

Then at the other end a minute later, United went close when Hogg showed some good footwork inside the left of the box before having his low left foot shot from 14 yards held at the second attempt by Gale.

Brimscombe made their final change right at the end of the 76th minute when Elliot Green came on to replace Major.

United went close in the 80th minute when Hogg won the ball back from Welch before crossing from 35 yards out on the right into the middle where Feyi had his header from 12 yards superbly tipped over the bar by Gale for a great save.

Then in the 84th minute, United went 2-1 up when Hogg's right foot free kick from 35 yards out just to the left of middle bounced in front of Gale on its way into his left hand corner. 2-1 Aylesbury

United made their final change deep into the 89th minute when Jacob Hutchinson came on to replace French.

A chance came Brimscombe's way 46 seconds into added time at the end when Campbell's long throw in from the right to the near post was cleared by Mark riddick to Pass, who fired his left foot shot from 12 yards well wide of Hopwood's right hand post.

It was 3-1 after 1 minute 34 seconds of added time when Seaton's low ball infield from the right found Hutchinson who took a touch before squaring low to his left to Feyi, who ran on before slotting his left foot shot from 12 yards under the advancing Gale into the middle of the net. 3-1 Aylesbury

The last chance came Aylesbury's way after 3 minutes 26 seconds of added time when Bewley's throw in down the left found Osborne who took a touch and beat 3 men inside the left of the box before having his right foot shot from 8 yards parried by Gale at his right hand post.

The final blast of referee Read's whistle after 4 minutes and 9 seconds of added time confirmed United's win and their place in the 1st Qualifying Round.

Ben Williams' side will be hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they entertain Didcot Town at The Meadow, Chesham on Bank Holiday Monday.
